doctorclu
Wow, that was brutal. 5200 Miner 2049er has the code in there TWICE to pad it from 16k to 32K. A common practice, but threw me for a loop for a bit. I edited the hat sprites so that it would show up more blue than white blue (the combination of two layers). I found a sprite set at both 2000 and 4000. The one at 4000 was the one that mattered. (maybe what you ran into with the Moon Patrol hack?) So after a few moments of confusion and nothing more, "I am ready for my picture Mr. Deville..." Miner2049er 5200 USA! USA!.bin Bring on the sprites with grid lines and let's kick this pig!! doctorclu
To quote Letterkenny "I figurred it out." Miner 2049er AS01-Beard.rom Just the first frame is in the new sprite, but you get an idea of how this would work. Here is the latest version I got: On a playfield: Dead... Running out of air: And other shots... Edited September 9, 2018 by doctorclu
doctorclu
Ok, excited for this, but will get some sleep here in a bit. In the previous edition Bounty Miner Bob (still going to call him Bounty Bob even if the cover art has him occupationally confused) was leaving streaks all over the place. Feel free to load the version I uploaded above to see it. Found that the white layer does not go down as far as we thought. Well the new white layer, which was the old red/ flesh colored layer, and that only went mid-torso. So might have to move some of the hand movements up a pixel or two going forward to keep this from happening again. TIX
I finished with the shrinking to 8 pixels.. (with a slightly tweaked helmet) Can you be more specific of the hand position ? I didn't mess with them for the moment. Attached are the sprites with grid lines.. TIX
So if I understand, we can have three colors in the head area ? 1) color 1 2) color 3 (combination of 1 and 2) 3) color 2. can we have color1-> flesh color color2-> blue color3-> green (combination of 1 and 2) Somehow we must include red/flesh color in the head area ! If that isn't possible, I can see more problems down the road: 1. Bob's shoulder is in the head area when walking 2. When jumping/climbing his hands are in the head area.. in any case Bob needs Heavy tweaking Edited September 9, 2018 by TIX
doctorclu
HA... OK you want to go with the blue beard? Nice choice. I'll make that happen. In the meantime, we have right and left movement done... (All sprite development will be with the Atari 800 version... being a 16K file verses 32K is easier to work with. Naturally 5200 version will be a pixel for pixel copy over from the Atari 800 version when done.) TIX
Just checked out the new version  great to see the sprite in motion, the animation is lightning fast and I cant make out the frames (its the originals fault) we cant slow it down I guess ? please check my idea at post 32 and let me know Great job ! >new revision of the sprites coming up<

doctorclu
I like that direction! Ok, changed the beards to blue (which was really a good move I think.) Miner 2049er AS03 FR03-Blue Beard.rom But the hat was doing all sorts of crazy stuff between frames. Have the character move arms and feet, good. A baubbly hat not so much. So I made this version where the hat is standardized so the face area remains static while Bounty Bob is walking. +Cafeman
Why is the beard blue now, instead of brown? It looks like you have brown pixels available (his shirt). Is there some reason you cant use brown in the head area?

+Cafeman
I just reviewed the thread again to familiarize. If Bob is made of 3 players, you have 4 colors to work with. 3 of those colors are your choice, one is created by P0+P1 overlayed pixels. Are there color limitations imposed by the hacking tool? Or maybe you like the "Bluebeard" idea.

xybot67
This looks fantastic, he finally looks like a miner. It was great to watch the collaboration between TIX and doctorclu. doctorclu
You want the miner look there too for the 2600 version? Maybe the 2600 version could be hacked to use Mario from the 2600 version of Donkey Kong. lol
