This should get it....

Miner 2049er AS08.rom

All should be as you had graphed out with two exceptions. On these adding a layer of blue in the middle while had the top move more out of the range of red. So these two were just absent some of the upper red pixels (in the arms extended beside the head.)

And if this works then we'll make a 5200 version!

Hi, I don't want to spoil the party, but IMHO there could be made several improvements. For example the upper part looks awkward in the last phases of climbing, it does not look like the guy is bending his head. I'm attaching a simple example how it could be corrected.

Cool. I'll let TIX the graphics man chime in on that.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm done with Bob..

I'm completely satisfied with the final result ! Waiting for the final version !

I have moved my attention to Moon Patrol now ;)

Yeh I'm about done with Bob too. :P Ok time to make a 5200 version.

We ready to announce this on the Atari Computer Board? :D

And the 5200 version of Miner2049 with the Alternative Sprite Hack!

[Recorded with Atari800 OS X . Atari800OS X has a no sound bug in current revision.]

Miner2049er 5200 AS01.bin

Try it out. Was able to get this to run under Atari800 OSX, but not Altiera for some reason.

I wonder if the more colorfull sequel (Bounty Bob strikes back) allows more colors on the sprite layers ?

I think that Bob sprite is exactly the same !

Same but the layers are more concise. Not sure we'd be able to get away with as much as we did here. I've looked at BBSB (because I knew it would come up eventually) and need to locate the color codes.

Basically other colors should be possible, we just lucked into red, white, and blue which worked great here. And I believe, based on the character sprites, that BBSB has Bob with three layers once again.

I'm currently playing the 800 version using the Atari800 emu on retropie,

I noticed that the games play at double the speed.. Do you have any tip to rectify the situation ??

Sure it could, just remember that the sprites were handled a bit differently on Bounty Bob Strikes Back.

Cool thing is, as we saw in Moon Patrol, Tix and his buddies are good at hack parameters too, not just the sprites (and the hunting and pecking I did to find color codes.)

Very nice! I’d love to see a Bounty Bob Strikes Back with New-Bob in it.

(I just think the original old-Bob looked kinda dull).
