ISOmetric RPG in development

I am only responsible for the code :-)

Dan made all the gfx.

You know Crafton and Xunk (played it on CPC464). It had also a third dimension: One could jump on walls and even on beds (as a trampoline) ....

(Not that the engine already looks great!)

Igor of Atarigamer.com wrote a small article on "Lacim's Legacy" which is for now at least the working title ;-)

I also made a small video of some of the new features:

This are the major changes:

  • Implemented new room structure

  • Implemented new object structure

  • Actions triggered on collision

  • Items can be picked up

  • Chests, doors, barrels can be opened

  • Global variables (chests stay open, gems remain picked up)

  • Different sprite for item states (open/close)

  • Doors are connected properly inbetween rooms (before: rooms were connected)

  • Player enters in new room at the position of the proper door

  • Music Routine plays in HBL (6Khz samples, MOD), but will be replaced

  • Redraw of full room only on load, movable objects (currently: only Player) use Software buffer

  • UI showing LIFE and MANA bars

  • PriorArt Logoscreen

  • Own Loadersystem

There was some progress since the last video :-)

Most importantly maybe the engine is now capable of dealing with non-playable moving characters. To make moving less of a pain for them I implemented a full pathfinding. How that all eventually will be used remains to be seen.

On top of this there is now a cooperative multitasking with priorities working under the hood. That was quite a substantial change and only possible so quickly because I developed such a multitasking engine on C64 before.

RAM is getting tighter but I am quite happy with everything so far :-)

Currently reworking large/all parts of the engine to save CPU time and/or memory.

Also implementing all kinds of new features. I hope to have some new recording by the time of the german ejagfest (which unfortunately I can not attend this year yet).

Sorry for a small derail, but I recently bought the Zzap64 2019 edition, and 'enthusi' was mentioned as part of the development team on 'Caren and the Tangled Tentacles', just out of curiosity, is that perhaps you? What a beautiful looking game that is! And top reviews everywhere.

Anyway around, very exciting seeing another promising game being developed for the Lynx!
