Clint Thompson
Any possible ideas for generating a rain effect? No possible chance of hardware calls I could do to create some buggy like rain? I've toyed with using fullscreen 320x240 4bit black and white rain with transparency overlay made in GIMP that's only 3 frames but it just comes out looking like black pixels. Plus it's ridiculously huge still at around 112k. rain.bmp
+CyranoJ
You could try the particle engine to inject drops?
+Gemintronic
Caveman-like idea but.. How about breaking that image into several large sprites and giving them their own trajectory and applied effects? You could tweak how many are needed until the end user is fooled into thinking you've got a full particle system going.

That would get my vote too - some 16 col sprites, probably 16x16 or 32x32 in size, create a bunch of them, set the coordinates and speeds and let them go. I seem to recall there's automatic wrapping handled internally in raptor so it probably would be a one-shot affair.
