Hacked a Sega Master System to work with a 7800.

 

Mixed results for sure!

 

Ms-Pac Man works! In Asteroids, the ship spins and keeps going into hyper-space.

 

Alien Brigade works for the cursor but stays in auto fire mode. (This is the game I want to work with a trak-ball)!

 

I think I'll try disconnecting the lines for the fire buttons and see what happens.

 

Centipede Trak-Ball doesn't work with it.

What did you hack? I just played Centipede with the sms track ball a few nights ago and it worked fine.

Regular. Ballblazer worked fine too. Although i did try asteroids after reading this post and it did the same thing as it did for you. For shits and giggles, i tried it with edladdins 78 adapter and it worked fine with it.

Meh. Everything is terrible with the 7800 stick. I'd look into the seagull 78 for the sms trackball.

That Master System Sports Pad (I assume that's what you mean) is kind of crap. I hacked one of these to work with computers, and it takes a Herculean effort to make the cursor or other onscreen objects go anywhere. Just try using it with SegaSonic Arcade... your damn hand will fall off.

Sounds like it needs a tune up. You tried cleaning/lubricating the rollers?

The SMS SportsPad controller has half the resolution of a proper Atari CX22 or CX80 Trak-Ball Controller. Just get a CX22 - or a CX80 - and buy 7800 Centipede-TB from AtariAge. Actually, get 2 Trak-Balls since you can do co-op modes.
