Best WIP Homebrew:

 

Any WIP game that has public available video of its game play or had a digital download available and is to be judged on the newest qualifying version released during the year. A WIP that has only been announced or only has screenshots is not enough to qualify for a nomination. Any WIP game that has made it to the selected list for Best WIP Homebrew in a previous year is not eligible to be nominated again in the WIP Homebrew category even if the WIP has been updated. Hacks and Demos are not eligible for this category and are only eligible in their specific category.

A lot of very promising nominees. This was a very close call for me.

This was 100% the hardest category to narrow down for me, such a huge crop of amazing games in the works!

There were a lot of great titles, but for me it was easy to choose one that stood out. The best part of this category is getting a cohesive look at what games are coming in the next year (or so).

It's not only bB games in the WIP category - there's 8 assm games and 4 bB games (labeled) above.

That leads me to another question -

Relatively few games are written in pure Assembly, which of the 8 asm games qualify?

Writing games in pure assembly is harder than using a high level language like macro script or BASIC (another macro language) to generate some of the assembly code.

And many BASIC games are hybrid BASIC and asm to get more power - these are no different to me than Assembly games written using macro script.

Assembly and BASIC (or macro script) go together like peanut butter and chocolate so unless the respective authors indicate I think it's likely all of these games are hybrids.

There were a lot of great titles, but for me it was easy to choose one that stood out. The best part of this category is getting a cohesive look at what games are coming in the next year (or so).

Looks like 2019 is going to be a banner year for homebrews! A lot of these look amazing.
