RMila75
Are there any good sites that offer screen shots and reviews of games for the VIC-20?
Sharky
There was a great Vic-20 Site from Funet or W/E, this site had almost all the downloads, Covers Manuels, etc. But some copyright cyber-police or w/e got to them and they were forced to close their site down. I mean gee. Copyright or not, surely the old companys of Vic-20 Games cannot profit over there 4k, 8k, 16k games anymore. From there on ive found little interesting sites decidecated to Vic-20. But at least ive got most of thier games. But personality I always see Vic-20 Games rather blocky and unplayable. Theres a few ok ones, like the Scott Adams Adventures, and Juptier Lander is okay... but the rest doesnt so much appeal to me anymore.
bcostin
Sadly there aren't many good screenshot archives of VIC games, and some of the sites that I had previously bookmarked have since disappeared. Here are a couple of links that are still around: PCVIC emulator screengrabs, showing number of popular games: http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Alley...583/Vgrabs.html War Shrake's Digital Archaeology site, featuring Cartzilla, a huge reference with short reviews of many cartridges (no screenshots though): http://home.att.net/~wards.game.history/vic20/ The Creative Computing archives have contemporary reviews for quite a few VIC games from back in the day: http://www.atarimagazines.com/creative/index/ The VIC was my very first computer, and despite the system's limitations I've always liked it. True, many games aren't all that great, but the system definitely has some good original titles and some decent versions of the classics. The Atarisoft arcade titles, in particular, are surprisingly faithtful translations. And even when they aren't so successful it's kind of fun to see how the developers managed to make the most of what they had.
Nukey Shay
Theoldcomputer.com still has a lot of programs up for grabs...including many that that this site poo-poo's for the 2600. How do they manage to get away with so much...we wonders?
Sharky
My greatest entertainment of the Vic-20 was just typing out programs from books. There wasnt really any illegal privacy software around at the time (well, for the Vic20), so whatever game you wanted you had to pay for. But it was great how you could just borrow a Programs book from the library with about 40 games to type out, save em to tape and you got some free games.
