highflyin9
I recently acquired a Vectrex unit that appears to be in good shape, however when firing it up with a cartridge in the side, it goes directly to Mine Storm. I tried several cartridges and this continues to happen. Any ideas? Can something like this be fixed with new caps, or is it more likely a bum unit? TIA. fiddlepaddle
My guess is the cart and/or the slot need to be cleaned. Try 91% rubbing alcohol or Caig deoxit. Qtip on the cart connector; credit card wrapped with soaked lint-free cloth in the slot.
highflyin9
That was all it needed. Thanks so much! Good 'ol isopropyl is quite handy. FYI with Caig's De-oxit: I used to use it on av connectors and vacuum tube pins and never felt that it did much. Switching to a lead-remover cloth from Walmart (I think it's Remington brand) removed the oxidation almost instantly from my old connectors, and it was only $3. A no-brainer compared to the $50 vacuum tube "survival kit" I mistakenly purchased.
