Suggestion for alternate xbox one headset

My son has had problem with the last two Microsoft made headsets that he purchase for his xbox one.  It is the cheapest one with just one ear phone and a mike.
Apparently after a while the mike just starts acting weird and he is unable to talk to other people in the same party that he is in ( they cannot hear him ).

 

So I'm considering looking into alternatives.  He already has it set to pipe the voices of other players through the TV.  So he does not really use the head phone part.  It's just the mike part we are most interested in finding a reliable solution to.  He never had these types of problems with the older style sets that Microsoft used to make a year or so ago.

you get what you pay for you need a high quality mic otherwise you just piss of people in the party.

I need a new headset and had been holding off... is it 100% confirmed that any current headset will work on the new XBox?

 

I'm thinking yes, but don't want to spend bigger money on this if it's a short-term investment.
