Bikerbob
ok, so I have switched it back to port 23... working again. I also found that I had everyone not able to access all the msg bases and had to change those accesses as well. So I think you will find this all much more enjoyable.. and it would explain why no one else was posting to the other boards James
Bikerbob
ARGH!!!.. so I use noip.com for my ddns because.. well its free. Now I do not have any sort of autoupdate program running on any of my machines because .. well I have my 1 laptop at home I use regually and my desktop at work. On both of those machines if I am doing certain things I will go through VPN - so the update program would then update the IP to ..well not the ip I want. YET - every few days.. something seems to be getting into the account and updating or changing the IP.. which is why people could not get on for the last 24h.. until I found that it had changed again. I have checked and rechecked the machines.. no update program running. I guess I can try and contact noip.. but I am not paying.. so not sure what they will do. JohnPolka
It's been awhile since I've used the free version of noip.com. Don't you have to log into their site monthly and renew your free subscription? Otherwise, it is disabled? I think that's what I had to do until I bought a yearly subscription. The subscription is not very much and it auto renews annually. After you get your ISP issues sorted out, I suggest the yearly subscription. It's worth it. Also, it helps when you use a router that supports noip.com dynamic DNS as opposed to a software program that handles it. Not sure if that's what you're using. -JP
Bikerbob
John... my ISP router does not support noip.. IT is not the monthly renewal thats the issue its that SOMEWHERE somehow.. and I have no idea on what machine etc.. something is changing the IP I have set in the Noip settings. My isp has not renewed my IP address in over a month.. so it should remain the same.. I am not running their DUC update.. I have gone through every machine I know and tried to disable the update service. Yes the subscription is not bed.. but I need to get this fixed.. Very frustrating.. it should be working right now.. but its not.. no idea is thats port 23 issues. James

Then how do you update it with noip when it changes? Manually? That is the whole point of dynamic DNS. Your IP can change and either the router or their update program that you run on one of your machines will keep it in sync with noip's DNSs. Or are you supposed to have a static IP from your ISP? -JP
Bikerbob
The updater from Noip runs every 5mins wether I like it or not.. I cannot change the setting.. I would do it.. once every 24 hours at 4am or something.. but it does not give me that choice. The Router does not support Noip.. The issue is.. I use a VPN quite a bit.. and if the DUC(their updater) is running then it will change the address to the VPN address. I would rather do it manually.. for now.. but some machine somewhere is doing it at the moment and its very frustrating. James
+DarkLord
I use dyndns and it works great. I do have a subscription. There's a daemon software updater that checks for IP address changes every 5 minutes. That's pretty much standard, AFAIK. I've got one that is running on a Win7 box and one that runs on my Linux laptop. I figure it's best not to put all my eggs in one basket. Sounds like this problem would not occur if you run a router that supports no-ip.com. Here's a list if you want to consider changing out your router: https://www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/what-devices-support-no-ips-dynamic-dns-update-service/ Also the protocol is pretty simple...in theory, someone could write their own updater...maybe even write it as a curl script. https://www.noip.com/integrate/request -JP
Bikerbob
SO I found the culprit.. it was a 2nd router that I was using as a WIFI switch to the Atari stuff. I had been making so many changes in the last while that I forgot on the DDWRT firmware on that old router (not needing fast for Atari) that I had turned on its SUPPORTED updater. for NOIP.. which was not working as a 2nd router because the address it was trying to update was not the primary outgoing address. ANYWAY - its disabled.. and for now should be good. I see I had 5 calls this morning. John being one of them. I like the wrestling game.. but dont like how it does not remember the player associated with the wrestler.. SO REMEMBER to write down the NAME YOU LOG INTO THE GAME with.. if you remember that name.. the wrestler associated with it will be fine. Tillek
I don't think it was a "version" as much as a configuration option. Many of the ST games were designed to run on multiple BBS Systems and could be set up to get the user information from different files the BBS could build. The "fallback" option was something like this where the user would have to be relied upon to enter the name. I actually had been planning to look at the config files as soon as I took care of a couple errands after work.
Bikerbob
well my "version" does not give the option. in the sysop.txt it tells me exactly what is happening is the way it was written. Bikerbob
Tillek
Ok, maybe I'm just confused because we're talking about 20 things in this thread, plus there is a game thread and... whatever. So. My "version" of Wrestling is 1.61. It appears to have been written for Forem. RatSoft would write the (if I remember right) ForemDor.Def (or something like it) that put all the user data in for the game to read. (We could also do it with Express type games, but that usually meant just making a file with a few specific bits of data). I'm guessing since you're actually using Forem...... You can just use the file it was designed for. So I'm going to leave my config here, and the documentation for 1.61. If you're using a different version, I'll get mine to you. Otherwise, the beginning of the docs (also in this message after the config) should get you going. If not, that will be our weekend challenge. The WRESTLE.OPT file.... Documentation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is very little required in the way of Docs for this game as I designed it to be very simple to learn. You have 6 characteristics which you control. They are: Weight Strength Intelligence Dexterity Luck Score/Experience Each of these have an optimum value (which I leave up to the users to find). After every winning match you will have units to allocate to these six categories. All the moves and there success is based upon a random number generator (maybe in a future version I can add a modifier for experience in there) but I have found that it seems to work well. If one move isn't working for you on a given day try another. There is full error trapping so nothing will crash your BBS (at least that I am aware of at this time). THERE ARE NO TROJANS IN THIS GAME!!! I am not that kind of person and pity all A**holes that are. (SO much for a political comment). Shawn Smith 34 Leith Hill Rd Apt. 622 Willowdale, Ontario M2J 1Z4 Enjoy the game and I hope to hear from you soon. Update 1.03 July 31, 1988 I have added and/or enhanced the following items since version 1.00: 1) Increased User time out 2) Added a Dirty move so that when all else fails cheating is a last resort 3) Enhanced the news file so that it will let you know when a champion has been crowned or the title changed hands 4) Corrected some errors in the messaging system which may have caused some strange files on your drive(Check this out and throw away whatever you find) 5) Altered points routine as I found an very accelerated growth pattern developing. 6) Corrected a bug with the Champion routine that would have eliminated a Champion from the game altogether should the champ be deleted. 7) Added user profiles Update 1.5 - Dec 16 / 88 Well once again I have fixed a few more things and added some others such as: 1) Corrected an error in the Error routine (what a place to have a bug) 2) Added some limited support for Express or other BBS programs. To use this just changed the line in the NEW WRESTLE.OPT file to EXPRESS or OTHER as the case may be. If you chose Express the program will look for a file called WRESNAME.DAT otherwise it will just ask for a user name . For FoReM Sysops just use the supplied WRESTLE.OPT and modify to your Database file names. 3) Once again I re-corrected the TAGTEAMS area. Seems I was not deleting tagteams as players were deleted so what would happen over time is your tagteams.dat file would get larger then I had dimensioned the arrays for and would result in a crash of you game. This is now gone (I hope?!?!) 4) Wrestler's can change there name 5) Tagteams can be broken 6) Fixed the bug where Negative values can be put in to move points around. 7) Adjusted the hitpoints taken on larger players so they do not get so large so fast. Zillions of little quirks were tweeked (don't mean to get to techie on anyone but when you take 6 months to get a release out and take notes like I do you forget a lot of things you did) February 28/ 90 (Wow more then a year since the last update) Added many new things but here are the most important 1) Interplayer messages. Simple text Editor added so player may send up to 6 messages at end of game 2) Speed up a lot of routines, Amazing how much you learn about GFA in 2 and 1/2 years 3) Added a Monthly Champion output file 4) I do a reset now on the 1st of the month, I set the modifiable values back to beginner status but I leave the win/loss record and current champion alone. I found people were getting to be (120000 hitpoints) and it was taking them too long to play the game 5) Added a Protect mode. Seems some players would come in a pick on the smallest player on the BBS just to get their hitpoints up real fast. I have now set up so at your option can protect players so you cannot chose a fight with someone less then 1/2 your size. (this may evolve into a different weight class type champ in the future). 6) General tidy up of the menues and output text 7) I have added the ability to change the moves and personalize each move and champion to your BBS. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU USE THIS OPTION YOU MUST FILL IN THE FILE ENTIRELY!!! ***********LAST MINUTE ADDITION************* I took 15 minutes and made the program CREATOR.TOS which will eliminate the need for the next 20 odd lines of this readme. I have left it here so if anything goes wrong you have some technical reference on how to fix the problem but CREATOR.TOS will do all the following for you!! ******************************************* How to use this option: With an ASCII text editor create a file called MOVES.DAT in the folder defined in your wrestle.opt Now the format of the first 38 lines of the file is MOVE POINT VALUE The first 8 lines are your dirty moves and the next 30 are your\ regular moves ie: JUMP OFF ROPE 45 CHOKE WITH Hidden RUBBER BAND 23 . . . Flying leg hold 17 Got that. Each move is 2 lines (one for title of move, one for point value). The first 4 moves/points are dirty moves the next 15 are regular. WE ARE NOT DONE YET. TWO MORE LINES to go line 39 is the name of your CHAMP (ie Conan's Crusher, Mile High's Mauler) line 40 is for the yet unused Tagteam Champ (file with nothing) As I said above, if you chose to use this option YOU **MUST** fill all 40 lines I am still looking into inter BBS play but a lot depends on you. If I don't see registrations coming in I see no future reason to support and continue development of the game. Take Care and hopefully see you next revision. Tillek
Now I should say, the ForemDor or FormDoor or whatever it was called... the data file was from Forem, not Ratsoft... RatSoft could create it, to be compatible with games written for Forem, but it wasn't a native RatSoft thing. This is why I think there might be something you missed that was covered in the documentation. A lot of the games run off this. Sometimes though, it was a less than trivial matter of making sure that file ended up in the drive/directory where the game was looking for it.
