5200 diagnostic cart help

Can anyone point to an on-line user guide for the SALT 1.1 diagnostic?

Also, when I start the diagnostic on my 2-port, I get the initial screen shown.

GTIA: NTSC

ROM: ERR

Any idea what the ROM: ERR means? Is this early version only meant to work with a 4-port 5200, and it can't figure out the ROM for the 2-port, or is something wrong with my 2-port's ROM?

Thanks!!

Not sure I've ever tried this version on a 2-port unit. But there are separate tests you can run. Like it says..just press the ' * ' and Enter to access the menu of other tests you can run and see if those show anything different? And I believe the 1.0 version diagnostic is somewhat covered in the 5200 service manual. You can find it at Console5.com here:

Looks like your system bios rom failed it’s checksum. There’s two versions of the bios, get a replacement here—choose four port for full compatibility with all games

Console5 isn't currently offering these due to some issues with the chips they received as I heard it. No idea when they will offer these again...

I don't mean to resurrect an old thread like this, but I've since figured out the exact issue with the ROM:ERR message.

The OP is correct. This version of the PAM diagnostics was before the 2 port came about. As a result, it doesn't recognize the 2-port BIOS and gives this error. All other tests however will work normally. If you use a 2.3 PAM test, it will show a proper checksum for the 2-port BIOS and works with the 4-port as well although I think the 1.1 is best suited for the 4-port and the 2.3 is best suited for the 2-port units.
