Retro_Game_Lover96
I bought the other one that has a VGA mod, but there are no DRAM Chips on this console, so this could be a simple fix.
Kiwi
VGA F18A don't uses the VRAM or the TMS9918A chip on the Colecovision. It only uses it own memory. So you should be able to hook it up to a VGA monitor.
Retro_Game_Lover96
Well, there are emptied sockets for the small chips, so the CV won't work unless it has all of the chips installed.
Kiwi
Isn't the VDP and VRAM bypassed completely when the F18A is installed? Those 8 slots are where the 2KB VRAM chip are supposed to be. And the 1 large one should be for the TMS9918A. Not sure if you powered it up yet and tried it with a VGA monitor or TV. RF and composite output probably needs TMS9918a chip and the 8 slots of VRAM. I'm going to tag @matthew180 so he can help. I'm only going off what I read about the F18A so I'm not 100% sure.
Retro_Game_Lover96
Never mind, I definitely realized that F18A board isn’t inserted all the way, so I have re connected it.

With F18a the 8 VRAM chips are not necessary. RF and composite would need the TMS9918a to replace the F18a as well as the VRAM chips.
Retro_Game_Lover96
Why can’t people start selling the F18A boards on eBay, so I could use it with the other CV that doesn’t have it.

Because people are using the ones they have. MK2 is coming soon, follow this thread:
Retro_Game_Lover96
Boy, I am enjoying my CV with F18A, but sometimes the menu of AtariMax SD card Ultimate glitches up, some games work fine, but other games don’t because they have glitchy graphics, self reset, etc. I do not know why. Other times, it works fine.
ChildOfCv
Could the working vs non-working games be related to their ROM sizes?

Some rom files might be good, and others might be bad.

That's always possible too, but I'm thinking of the communication issue. It's possible that one of the pins at the cartridge port don't make good contact. I was troubleshooting a 2600 that could play Defender, but not other games. Turns out one of the address pins wasn't making contact with the CPU. Retro_Game_Lover96
I finally got my ColecoVision working after I have replaced the power switch and the DRAM chips (via +5V Mod).
