Famicom Disk System collectors (FDS) - anyone else collecting these? (Official Thread for FDS)?

Recommended Posts

So I recorded a video myself, showing that the noise you hear is your motor running without a belt :

Also I don't show it here but I left it running for a few minutes and it don't spit any error code. But I spun the gears by hand to make the reading head goes up an down, and as soon as it did a full run, the RAM cart displayed an error.

So unless proven otherwise, your problem is located in your drive, not in your RAMcart.

Order a Belt they are super cheap, but if you want to test before that with a 'rig' - clean off all the old belt from the brass wheel and the main plastic wheel and find a rubber band that is about the size, it will work for a bit.  Its not a long term solutions but at least you can see it works and you will know its worth getting a belt for.

I got it fixed thanks for all your help. I am so excited.  Cannot believe it.  I tried everything.  Cleaning etc no go.  Then I found this video.  Tried several times and no good.  Today with my screw driver just now I finally found the sweet spot and now it works.  Do thanks.

Also regarding fds is there a rarity guide or price list somewhere?

I have been using Hardcore Gaming 101 Presents: The Famicom Disk System  I have found the book to be very insightful and pretty well accurate as to rarity, but more important it tells you how much Japanese you will need to know to play the games, this helps in knowing if you are buying a game to add to the collection or something you can use.

I was turned on to it by one of the guys on the Fb group: Famicom Disk System Collectors Group

Amusingly after making the video with my belt-less FDS, I decided that heh since I had a belt at hand, to put one; well ajusting the dang head took me a good hour, but I got it working :)

Doki Doki Panic finally arrived today.  Its funny the golf/voleyball disk I ebayed was from canton michigan.  And doki doki panic was from Japan.  But both took the same 7 days to arrive to chicago.  Japan should of took longer.

At fisrt doki doki panic was error ing 27 and 22.  But did the screw driver trick again and now it works.  But it was weird with the top cover off no go and with the top cover on it works.  No changes to the screw.

If it loads side A and not B you may need to tune the motor speed too. Do it carefully, use a marquer to note where the original speed was at first.

I am trying that.  No luck.  I forgot to mark when I got her.

Well reading from top to bottom should take 8 seconds so you can at least check if you're in the correct values with a chronometer. As far as I heard the speed is the least important parameter but it may require retuning because belts have different quality (I have belts from different sources and one source is defitively more stiff, which result in more pull on the engine axle and therefore, decreased rotation speed).

4300 sent me a clear belt.  Not stiff at all.

Weirdest thing happened today.  Zelda1 came today.  At first no go.  But after motor recalibration it loads.  But when I switch to side B it loads all the saves.  The middle of the 3 zelda saves gave error 27 fist time but the first one loaded.  The turned it off and back on.  Next time all 3 saves loaded no error 27.  My volleyball golf cart loads to.

But doki doki panic still no go.  Side A loads but side B does not.
