So far the Piko/Cliko carts don't even exist. It will be interesting to see if they ever do.

These bullet points are partial lies:

No GB or GBC, and no Radical Rex, Big Karnak, Mighty Warriors, or Smashing Drive.

Man, I wish it had Smashing Drive.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Instead of going for smaller screen sizes, these things should go for larger screen sizes, even if it means slightly larger bodies. After all, I'm sure a significant portion of the demographic is 40+, which means small details get harder to resolve on tiny screens.

Yes! I got the Super Pocket for Rastan and some other games, but after playing the Switch and OG Evercade for a few years now, I’m NOT into playing those GB style systems anymore. Gimme landscape screens!

Anyone else know what's up with this? I have updated to the latest firmware. I have toyed with options menu settings (PAL/NTSC options), even monitor settings. No dice. I'd really like to use this thing in an uncompromised way. Especially Duke Nukem 1 & 2 HD.

Sorry, I asked about this on Discord and they asked that you email them directly at support@evercade.co.uk

The firmware update adds beta analog stick support for several games. That's the biggest addition in my opinion.

So far no support for the Atari Arcade trackball, spinner, and rotary games though. That's the biggest issue for me still. Centipede is still basically unplayable.

I don't know for you guys but updating the Evercade EXP can be annoying for me. Typically, as soon as I get the system on, I go to the settings but the OS tells me it can't connect to check if there is a new update, then after a few tries, and after I leave the System item in the settings menu, the red dot notification appears next to it to tell me an update is available. 😒 Also the download always feels slow compared to my available bandwidth, but maybe it's just an impression...

Wow the new hidden game is... basic. Well, at least it's funny and doesn't look like an ugly flash game. But I'm not sure I'll play a second time. 24 was my score iirc.

Yeah, that's pretty much been the process on my EXP since I got it. Although I will say lately it's been better about not timing out and having me attempt the download multiple times. I just chalk it up to the fact it's a budget product.

I don't have an EXP and haven't updated my Pockets yet.  The VS seems to have a pretty smooth update experience, however.

I've also updated my Super Pocket but it's not very useful. It just corrects some language stuff, and fixes Cathedral to make it work basically.

Well the original has one set of shoulder buttons, the others have two. Doesn't affect a lot of games yet, but some like duke or tombraider may be unplayable without the added buttons.

Exp supports Tate (vertical) mode, which is great for vertical oriented games. Of and exp screen is so much better, though sound pipes out the bottom of the system instead of the face, so it takes a slight hit.

I prefer the styling of the og system personally too, the exp is to...iPhone for me, not bad if that's your thing, not a deal breaker, I just prefer the original aetheic.

Oh, and the newer systems don't have quite so tight a grip on carts. Not a bad thing, tight grip, but some carts are legit hard to insert and especially remove from the original.

Unless money is an issue, I'd say absolutely get an exp, if you plan to play with friends, get a vs too. If not friends, you can skip the vs, since all evercades hook to the tv anyways.

Thanks for the feedback. I REALLY like the look of the original also. And I bought the Taito super pocket for the included games (which are great) but I realize I need the landscape screen haha.

Aww, the exp-r is doing away with video out? To bad, but understandable I guess, as how many people actually use it?

I was going to suggest super pocket to, nice screen, and I like the form factor over all, but games that make heavy use of shoulder buttons are a pain to play, and its got a closer to 4/3 screen. Granted, most old stuff is perfectly suited to that.

I’ve already got the Taito super pocket, which I dig, but I Switch has spoiled me in terms of form factor- I don’t really like playing on a Gameboy styled device as much anymore.

Oh sure...NOW I see this business!

Actually,

You know when I first read this?

Ummm...Probably about 10 minutes after I ordered my "Nevercade"!   *Sigh*

😆

I wonder why they claim Game Boy and Game Boy Color compatibility when it's only GBA??  Seems like quite the oversight to me.   I'll probably keep it just for kicks but in my old days I'd have probably returned it instantly if their description is that far off...

Well, the GBA was retrocompatible with the GB/GBC so... Actually, I'm not sure I understand why GB games wouldn't work, unless powering on the device uses a physical thing that would block bigger carts.

Going from memory here but GB/GBC carts are 5V vs GBA that are 3.3V … I think this came up on krikzz gba-ed forum thread as to why he never made a gba-ed that can also run the other cart.

Here:

Possible to make the device switch and support both … not sure what they did.

GBA carts were 3 volt while GB and GBC were five. The GBA used a physical switch to choose GB/GBA mode, its why GBA carts have a notch by the cart edge connector.

I was always bummed the DS couldn't run older game boy carts, the original revision to my understanding had all the parts, including the voltage regulators to jump voltage to 5 volt, but Nintendo seemingly last minute nixed the switches. I think later "lite" revisions were missing the voltage regulator too.

Question for y’all… I still use my OG Evercade. Should I upgrade to an EXP, or an R? Is there a compelling reason for me? I saw that the EXP has a sweet lineup of Capcom titles, and Songbird throws in an extra game. Will the R have a non “tomb raider” version?

At this point I would get a new under warranty EXP with the Capcom games. That way if anything goes wrong you can get a new ones. Until we hear the EXP-R is meaningfully better in the areas where the EXP has problems, it is best to assume it isn't.

That said, the OG is still my favorite. All of the games are playable on it, you just might need to do something silly like holding select and pressing the L and R buttons to sidestep in Tomb Raider.

Yeah I’m leaning that way. I REALLY enjoy the OG. I know this sounds stupid, but I don’t wanna deal with non wi-fi updates. I’ll pay money to avoid plugging things in and finding folders, etc.

Actually I would really strongly recommend upgrading the OG if you use carts with both it and more recent systems. There were changes from the old firmware to the new in terms of where and how save files go. Best case your saves just wouldn't carry over, worst case the more modern systems see it as an unauthorized modification and lock out the carts.

I couldn't see the system locking carts, due to there's enough people who probably never update, not to mention carts being sold new with old firmware, that are virgins and never been inserted into any console. Now other way around, new games not working on old systems, I see that, its already happened if you don't update.
