I just listed the worst gaming devices I've ever played. The Spectrum absolutely belongs in the same category as AtGames Atari Flashbacks and RCA Studio IIs.

I forgot to mention the Watara Supervision, though. That's another Spectrum-tier device complete with games no human can manage to stare at. Another example would be the R-Zone. Same same.

To be fair, the R-Zone has a better palette and smoother scrolling than the Spectrum. Well I guess so does the Supervision.

The Supervision screen is pretty much just one constant blur while things are moving. Makes the OG brick Game Boy seem like an OLED Switch in comparison.  And yeah, that is indeed more pleasant to the eyes than a Spectrum game.

What about the ears, though? Spectrum's sound is very basic, sure, but Supervision's sound is often very grating.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I tend not to like smaller handhelds like that.

On the contrary for me! I may finally pick the Taito one, even though I've got all the games in my Egret II mini, because a handheld would be more convenient for me, and I wonder if I won't use it more than my EXP on the long run, especially if it has a better battery life.

I honestly can't recall the sound of any Supervision games. I have the console and a TV link but even with the TV link you can't see crap because the colors are inverted. I need to dump all that garbage off. It was super cheap when I bought it so I did zero research. My mistake.

Battery life is the same 3-5 hour range as the OG handheld and the EXP.

It's obviously going to be a bit of a compromise with the ergonomics but I'd think that the people who like to keep a handheld in their pocket at all times will take to it like they did with the Miyoo Mini.

There are people who keep a handheld gaming device in their pocket at all times?

Why not? Most people keep a phone there and there are handhelds of comparable size going to considerably smaller.

You're probably not keeping a Switch or a Steam Deck there unless your fashions tend to the baggy but a Miyoo Mini is only about the size of a folded GBA SP, so it's definitely an option.

Probably, yes, but my EXP's battery is never full, always at 3/4 no matter how long I recharge it. 😩

But of course, since they're as powerful, I don't expect a huge difference (unless the WiFi drains a lot of battery, which is a possibility).

Also the EXP doesn't fit in my shoulder bag or any pocket. I usually keep my gaming devices at home mind you (except the 3DS because of Street Pass - not anymore obviously), but I may start to bring one with me...

I had no idea those super-pockets were so small. I guess the pocket in the name should of clued me in 🤣  Not that I'm not still game for it, but it's a little unexpected. It might even replace the OG evercade that lives in my car.

I really don't see how IGN can pull out the term "pixel perfect," so many times in that vid though. I get that it's probably something they were specifically told to say, but at 320x280 physical screen pixels I assume that means 'chopped off game edges and the wrong aspect ratio,' so maybe best to downplay that "feature"... They even rabbit on about it over footage of a vertical game, ffs.

We get it, IGN, you don't care, just say the words you were paid to say, or just have AI do it. Kind of sounds like the case, actually.

Now that there are 51 cartridges and counting, does anyone have good storage solutions for just the cartridges themselves? I keep the cartridge boxes and everything else in a few small, clear crates, but I'd like the option to do what I do with the Switch and just move the cartridges themselves around in a reasonably compact case. I can obviously just put them loose in a clear plastic crate, but I'd prefer pockets, or at least, compartments, so it's not disorganized. Thanks!

Hey, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  Personally, I think comparing the Speccy to the RCA Studio II is a Grand Canyon sized stretch.  But, again, as I cited earlier, my own son won't give 8-bit aesthetic type games the time of day.  To each their own.  Nothing wrong with that.

Hey, no joke, a Supervision collection would be awesome to see imo.  Granted, it won't (probably) ever happen, but I think it would pretty cool.

I put it in the same category because technological limitations make the games unplayable on both systems in my opinion. Studio II, R-Zone, Spectrum, SuperVision, Hyperscan, game.com, every AtGames device... all just awful. It has nothing to do with the aesthetics and everything to do with how they display games (as in our ability to see them, not our subjective opinion on the artistic appeal), produce sound, handle motion, and/or how they control. All of those systems are extremely unpleasant to interact with. I personally love my Virtual Boy but I know some people put it in the same category for the same reasons and I don't blame them... it doesn't hurt my head or eyes to play, but for some people it does and it's totally fair for those people to classify it as garbage.

Pretty sure a lot more people love the Speccy than the Virtual Boy.  But, hey, everyone needs to be true to themselves.  If the Virtual Boy does it for you and the Speccy doesn't, all good.  Also, I will say there are some Virtual Boy titles I really enjoy and definitely would recommend people check out.
