Nano-PEB to PC does not work...

The PC files are straight ASCII (text) source codes, this.c, that.s, and such.  I was hoping to write source code with the PC and transfer it to the TI for compilation with C99, and so on.

When I sent a file from PC to TI using Telco XMODEM protocol, Telco saved it in DF128 format.  E/A Editor wouldn't open it, so I looked at it using DM2K's hexadecimal display.  The data all looked good, just crammed together with <CR><LF> pairs marking the lines.

I sent a file from TI to PC, again using Telco XMODEM protocol.  I looked at the file using a 'vi' clone and found a bunch of garbage at the start, and "^M" at the end of each line.  After reading through the message-history on this topic, I realized that the garbage was a TI-Files header.  After using TI-Dir (something else I forgot I had) to convert it, the file looked OK.

My programs can send data at 9600bps, which is what I do for debugging, so I don't really need XMODEM for transfers, except for error-detection.  But I wanted to see if things would work in both directions; I'm kind of petty that way.

Then I tried using TI-Dir to convert the PC file before sending it to the TI, again with XMODEM protocol.  Telco still saved the file in DF128 format, along with the TI-Files header in it.

As a result I figured I would just write a "little" program to read the DF128 file and save it to a DV80 file that the E/A Editor can read.

Everything seems to work, so I can get on with my plan for world domination...

Are you sure it was TIFILES? TI99Dir prefers the V9T9 format, and converting to TIFILES format is a separate step you have to take after converting it to a TI style file. If the first 10 bytes of the file are the filename, it's V9T9. If it's TIFILES, then it's a proper TIFILES/XMODEM header. Telco should recognize the latter correctly...

Oops.  I didn't think to check the converted file before sending it to the TI, just assumed it was TI-FILES.

Fred added functionality recently... check out v7.1 and look at the configuration options. ;)

As it happens, I was poking around the Fred's Web site this morning.

Looking at some other stuff I saw that he had compiled programs using Win10.  I figured it would not work in my Win98 machine since Microsoft (at least used to) actively discourage using older software.  Checking the site just now, I found the note saying it should still work on Win98.  I'll try it and see.

I am pleased to report that TI-Dir v7.1a works under Win98, and it did ASCII-text<-->V9T9<-->TI-Files conversions with my test file last night.  Just have to do the conversions, one at a time.  I converted the test file, sent them to the TI, looked at it there (good).  Then I sent it back to Win98, converted it, looked at it (good), then used KDiff to compare them.  All went well.

Having written the conversion program, I find I probably don't need it.  That's OK, I got to fiddle with Tom Bently's TCIO library, which I had not done before.

Everything's good, now my world domination scheme can go ahead.

Again, thanks to all.
