rossum
First attempt at a S.A.M./MacInTalk speech synthesizer for the 2600. Lmk if this is interesting or useful to anyone and I will spend some time to clean it up and create tooling to make it more usable. cheers sam2600.rom
+ZeroPage Homebrew
This is amazing!! I remember playing around with S.A.M. so much back in the 80's on my C64. So much fun trying to get it to say things! I think this will be very useful, especially if you're able to package it so people can incorporate it into their own games. Or if you can implement it as an add in module for batari Basic somehow. I'll be showing this off on the next ZeroPage Homebrew Twitch stream on Tuesday! - James Edited August 1, 2020 by ZeroPage Homebrew

Thomas Jentzsch
Very impressive. Can the white noise between the vowels be reduced?

The unvoiced & fricative noise is a bit overwhelming at the moment, dialing it in with a slightly different method. cheers

I liked your innovative research on your site delving into 1920's retro tech; the circuit bending example with the two oscillators. Amazing use of that pioneering technology in it's emergent state to create and apply those optimizations over SAM to get the footprint under 4k. Very interesting read!

xxl
in 2011, Szuwarek presented the speech synthesis procedure on the Atari 2600. Here is an example. but the SAM one sounds so much better.

The game was made in batari Basic using the DPC+ kernel. I think that your speech synthesizer will be useful for that. Can you provide me some info of your software ? Let me know. Thanks Carlos RaymanC
Thomas Jentzsch
Currently it works nice a stand alone ROM. But IMO an easy to include, well documented SAM2600 library would massively increase popularity. @rossum Are there any plans for this? Or can you give advice how to use you code within another program?
