asponge
No time to catch your breath, a new season is here! We're back to our normal format of any game goes so if there's a title you've been dying to see in the HSC please post a suggestion. I still have a modest list of suggestions from previous years that I'll be pulling from as well. Anyway, we're going to kick this one off with a favorite: Marble Madness. Thanks for playing! Game Rules: Select either control scheme. Manual Score Post Deadline: Sunday August 23 at 11:59 PM CDT. Games will be posted on Sundays and run two weeks through Sunday at 11:59 PM CST. Do not exploit game glitches, take advantage of 1-up loops or intentionally die in order to replay a level. If "point pressing" is not specified in the game rules you should be moving forward in an attempt to complete/loop the game and not "camping" for points. No emulator save states, slow-mo, rewind, etc. No cheats, e.g. Konami code, Game Genie, etc. Turbo controllers are allowed. Round points are awarded according to the following chart:
fakecortex
Whoa, I'm surprised to see the next season start so fast! Marble Madness...works so well with a trackball in the arcade. Years ago I scored a set of controllers on ebay for a song that I thought would help out specifically for this game. They didn't, but they were a neat addition to my NES collection. I'll grab a pic of them... Edited August 9, 2020 by fakecortex added pic
Magmavision2000
12,890 it's gonna take a while to get used to the controls (Played on a modded 3DS): EDIT: Small improvement 18,280: EDIT EDIT: Progress! 21,600: Do you guys do Famicom exclusive games? mbd30
The bulk of your score comes from big bonuses upon beating the game. For example, you get 1100 points for every second left on the clock at the end. You also lose 1000 points for every death (subtracting from 20k, so you get 20k for not dying).
mbd30
177,230 Better score. This was a pretty good no-death run. Too bad I finished with 77 seconds left rather than 78.

I'll add these to my list of candidates. 1
fakecortex
For Famicom, I LOVE Circus Charlie (or Circus Chablie as I call it- my first exposure to it was on a pirated muli-cart that had the typo). I've done some intense point "exploring" with that game and we'd have to very explicitly lay out what is considered point pressing. You can camp for coins and rack up your points ridiculously high while playing for a very long time. Or even just squeeze out a few extra coins a level for a questionable advantage. That's a good MAME title. I've never played the Famicom version. I'll add it as an option. If we get to it, I'll be sure to hit you up for the potential scoring pitfalls.

Expect a score in the 60k range upon beating it for the first time, but that should be good enough for a high ranking on the leaderboard. EDIT: I hope at least one other person beats this, lol. That answers the question of if it repeats. Good to know, more eager to finish now!

Nope, it definitely doesn't repeat. It's just the six short levels. The game takes under five minutes to beat. I know this makes high scores seem impossible, but it really is all about tearing through the game as quickly as you can while not dying in order to rack up big bonus points. BTW, hold the A button to go faster. You have to hold A to make the jump at the beginning of level 6.

So I just read the manual last night and realized that was a thing ? I guess I didn't notice when playing or remembered from years ago ??♂️
