carlsson
By the way, I noticed that Mastertronic (MAD) sold both the C64 and A8 versions as Revenge II, but on the title screen they differ in that the C64 says Return of the Mutant Camels while the A8 says Revenge of the Mutant Camels. I see that on the Llamasoft Archive, the canon title would be Revenge of the Mutant Camels II, but for some reason the title screen doesn't resemble this. Wikipedia further writes that the Amiga game Revenge of the Mutant Camels II didn't involve Jeff at all, except possibly design. Steve A. Riding (also Airstrike, Captain Sticky's Gold etc) who did the A8 version also is co-credited for the Amiga game. He ended up at Psygnosis with a number of titles.
McKong
I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks, I hope everyone's having fun. I haven't been reading the posts to this topic. I'll have a go at a couple of the games this week, which are the best ones?
carlsson
I don't know which are the best ones, but going by number of participants so far: Pharaoh's Curse - 7 entries King Tut's Tomb - 7 entries Desert Falcon - 6 entries Lost Tomb - 5 entries Pharaoh's Pyramid - 5 entries All other main games 2 entries each, plus the puzzle and adventure bonus games. I think the games originally voted for were along the line of Pharaoh's Curse and King Tut's Tomb, some of the others just were included for variety and to get a round that lasts four weeks.

graywest
The Tomb of Death: Well, I tried it. ? I actually really like text adventures, but this one is... not up to par. Desert Survival Test: My first go. After you play through it once, the game tells you the correct answers. This is un-ironically kind of a fun little diversion. Not really a game, but now if I'm ever lost in the desert, I have a slightly better chance at living to tell the tale. +slx
slxjr scored 16500 on Lorien's Tomb while I had 10300 only. His timing using the moving blocks was better than mine. Improved to 3415 on Pharaoh's Curse.
carlsson
Pharaoh's Pyramid - 8327 pts (round 5 starting on Slave/Novice) Pharaoh's Quest - 1550 pts I played Pharaoh's Curse as well, but didn't manage to improve my 1st run score. I still don't get Pyramid Run to work, tried several versions. I'm not sure how many of these games I will have a final go at next week.

carlsson
On 9/2/2020 at 11:35 AM, carlsson said: Edit: Actually I downloaded Riddle of the Sphinx for 16K expanded VIC-20 and was pleasantly surprised by its variation of maze with mini-games. Some are pure random, some are skill based, pretty much all in BASIC. While I lack skills in Atari programming (even BASIC) so I won't give it an attempt at converting, I might play this game a little more seriously later in the month, outside the HSC then. After spending way too much time trying to "crack" the TAP file (multiple tools such as WAV-PRG, FinalTAP and tapclean wouldn't recognize the individual files so I had to load them one by one in the emulator and then use the machine code monitor to extract them to a D64), I have now played this game for half an hour ... and what a piece of random it is. I count to at least 7 different mini-games, of which three are somewhat skill based, one is semi-random and three are entirely random number based. In order to win the game, you both need to find a key and get at least 500 in treasure within your three lives. So far I was extremely close to making it once but lost my last life right before the entrance to the last chamber so I don't know what the final prize is. With better odds on the random games and perhaps some other improvements, it could be decent for VIC-20 purposes but I would never have dig it up if it wasn't for the tomb theme here in the A8 HSC. And yes, I played the VIC version of Pharaoh's Curse too while I'm at it. Maybe I'm swearing in the church, but except for fewer colours and blinking software sprites, it looks just as good as the A8 version and perhaps even plays at a nicer speed, less random about the guys suddenly appearing and firing at you. I get a little bit of Bruce Lee feel about that, enemies spawning on screen and die of their own. Relatively speaking, definitely a bigger technical feat on the VIC than the A8 game is.

+therealbountybob
After a lot of travelling up and down throgh the screens I finally beat Pharaoh's Curse (level 0!!) 5,810 - higher score is worse here! Took ages to get the timing right on that one where you drop down the sides of the screen to land on the lift in the middle. At the end I couldn't figure out how to end it but luckily landed on birdy and he took me to the title screenl. Found a little feature - if you press reset after beating level 0 on the password screen it then shows the next password and so on - press Option to see the screen again as it blanks out. Also played Desert Falcon earlier on ? and reached Level 11 on Lorien's Tomb the timing for level 10 was not so bad afterall, might play this more too.
