kevincondrick@gmail.com
Ok just got a PS3 that don't play disc. Thinking I can just swap a disc drive I bought it but unknowing that you need to keep the one motherboard for they are married with the main board.... So I'm in a pickle now I do believe that someone was messing around with this before and maybe swapped the disc drive and not the daughter border with it... So is there any work around this or it's it just a waist of time ? +chue
Which ps3 do you have? I believe only the later model ps3 slims (or super slims) allows swapping out the entire drive. Custom firmware is the only way to remarry a drive to a motherboard. Punisher5.0
Its possible with a hacked system but not easy. Better off just turning it into a digital only system. 1 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/313883-dose-anyone-know-if-you-can-do-a-full-disc-drive-replacement/#findComment-4687285 Share on other sites

Classic Pac
The optical drive can be replaced but keep in mind if your doing it yourself that there are a couple of different models and you you really have to check which one. 1 Quote Link to comment https://forums.atariage.com/topic/313883-dose-anyone-know-if-you-can-do-a-full-disc-drive-replacement/#findComment-4709172 Share on other sites
