fredster17
I bought a broken lynx 2 from eBay, thought I'd give a try at repairing it. It would turn on and off and make noise out of the speaker. But would not bot with a cart. Things I have done or had done: Recapped- stayed the same Replaced the Zenner and Mosfet components-stayed the same had the MOTOROLA MC14069B U6 Power Inverter replaced-stayed the same Here is a photo is what it does when powered up: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6fA5msJ2kNoEJ3RX9 Anything else I might try? Thanks
Jamesieboy
Hi, no expert and just getting back into my Lynx and not great at the electronics side of things yet. But I would maybe hazard a guess at the screen being knackered, does the sound sound like it might be right for the game or just a random noise? If it sounds like it could be the game sound track the screen would be my suspicion, but as I say not a expert so don't take my word for it. If is the screen you can probably get one on line ebay etc, or do an LCD upgrade either the Mcwills or Bennvenn. Hope been of some help. +Stephen Moss
As Jamesieboy said, try and insert a game that make noise once started (not sure of the top of my head which do that, maybe space invaders or pac-man), if the sound seems OK then the game would appear to be running the problem can be narrowed down to just a screen/graphic generation issue. You may want to try the sound test with headphones in case the speaker drive circuit is defective. If you are getting what seems to be good sound you might want to investigate signs of damage to the flex circuit that connects the screen to the PCB and that the flex circuit is correctly inserted into the FCC connector on the PCB. If those check out then try searching the forum for a possible solution as I am sure this have come up several times before (and quite recently) and if none presents itself then it may be time for a new screen, many owners have upgraded the the McWill screen (search the forum), you could try that or maybe some get a working used screen of somebody who has. With a noise making game inserted if the only sound you get is a bit of a pop at power up that is just speaker thump caused by the initial power surge, a combination of no video or audio may suggest the game is not running, which would be difficult to solve beyond checking the processors not being held in reset or detecting them getting very hot.
