Very strong H.E.R.O. vibes with this, so much so I wonder if the former's license holders wouldn't get miffed. It's not identical, but that's the first thing I thought of. I like the idea and think it could be a good one. Music might need a second look.

I think they're pretty safe. So long as you don't copy any graphics, code or sound and give all trademarks a wide berth, it's a long established principle that you can copy gameplay.

 

Somewhat ironically, it was a case that Atari lost in the 80s that set this precedent:

Even though it has similarities to Hero, the game seems to have its own identity. I loved the style, the desire to play. I hope the project goes forward and the game is released for several platforms. Looking forward to its release.

I hope to see this one on the VCS. I am a big fan of Pixel Games' existing releases (especially Sir Lovealot), and this game seems like it's a perfect addition to the console.
