Just wondering if anyone knew what this little cable was for that i picked up in an Atari lot. On one end has a 9 pin Atari type male plug, on the other it looks like a 16 pin dil IC socket. Any help would be grateful.

Yep, Emerson is correct. That is an Apple II joystick cable. You connect the DIL to the motherboard and pull the cable through somewhere to connect an analog Apple II joystick (not compatible with Atari standard). Or maybe there are electronics involved not seen on the picture, converting digital Atari signals to analog Apple signals?

Close, but it's it's an adapter for plugging in older Apple II controllers to an Apple //e. The controllers had the male DIL 16 connectors, so you'd connect the old controller to the female DIL socket on the cable, then you'd connect the other side of the cable to the controller port on the back of your Apple //e, which happens to be a female Dsub-9 connector.

Thanks for all the replies :)
