Minimum attachment size?

carlsson

Question

Something I've been thinking about, in order to not waste storage space on the AtariAge servers, is file sizes for uploads, mainly pictures but also various other documents, zip archives with executables etc. I suppose attachments are stored as files on the server rather than baked into the database, which makes me wonder if it is meaningful to try to keep attachments very small. I'm not thinking about data transfer though of course that is valuable to keep to a minimum as well.

Would for instance the server have a block size of 2-4 MB, meaning that even a 15 kB image will take a full inode on the server so in terms of active storage it is no more lenient than a bigger image of 1 MB? Or maybe storage space is not a factor at all, compared to all the operating costs of keeping AtariAge running?
