Fadest
Thanks guys. I know graphisms are very important, and I don't want to hurt graphists sensibility, but right now, this is not my focus. Before harassing or commissionning someone, I prefer to be sure to have a solid technical foundation and a rather cool and playable engine. And also a main scenario direction (even if in this kind of game, it is usually thin like cigarette paper as we used to say in France - but it has impact on needed environment and foes - starship, laboratories, dungeons, ...) Then, when I will be sure I can turn it into a full game, I will look for options and budget for assets.
SlidellMan
Gameplay and fun in the driver's seat, I like that approach. I would help out with your shooter, but want to focus on a few things, such as what phoboz is currently working on.

This is still a very preliminary alpha, with placeholders graphs & music. Made with JagStudio and U235 Sound Engine. You can see in action : Many room design (decor, obstacles), and 1 level design (n room in a 5x4 template) 3 weapons : laser, gun, flamethrower ennemies : 2 type of turrets, blobs, flamethrowers 2 players should work but I only have 1 jagpad yet What do you think, is there any interest for a game like this on the Atari Jaguar ? There is indeed!
agradeneu
But if there was an official port of Xeno Crisis in dev., does it need a 2nd similar game?

Usually, the best motivation is intrinsic, which means you just fall in love with the game you are doing and not being dependent on people requesting a certain game. Atlantis
OP, Might have been already pointed out, that it is not only a top-down shooter like Raiden but a top-down-left-right shooter. Would prefer 8 Ways to shoot, but no matter what bring it on!!
+Gemintronic
What about a reverse bullet hell? Instead of dodging projectiles your character auto fires various weapons. Enemies swarm but don't necessarily chuck things at you. With the amount of sprites the Jag can handle that might be exciting.
+grips03
Please use the same control layout as Total Carnage. This allows single gamepad to be used to build a TwinStick. If you force TwinStick controls to use two control pads (not recommended) it costs more and might limit two player co-op, or require additional hardware.
