It's time to put down your boomerangs and pick up your wings of love to save the world from extinction!  The game loops after it's completed, but we're only going to allow one playthrough for the competition.

You may post a score for any title, during the current regular season round.  Score improvements are always accepted as well.  Points for these games will be awarded at the end of the season.  Each game will be scored like a regular season round, e.g. first place will receive 25 points, second 20 points, etc.  All points earned here will be added to your season total.

Season Standings:

 

General HSC Season Rules:

• To participate, just post a score to the thread. Anyone can join in at any time.
• A picture or screenshot is encouraged when posting a score but not required.
• The season is 15 rounds long.
• Games will be posted on Sundays and run two weeks through Sunday at 11:59 PM CST.
• Do not exploit game glitches, take advantage of 1-up loops or intentionally die in order to replay a level.
• If "point pressing" is not specified in the game rules you should be moving forward in an attempt to complete/loop the game and not "camping" for points.
• No emulator save states, slow-mo, rewind, etc.
• No cheats, e.g. Konami code, Game Genie, etc.
• Turbo controllers are allowed.

This is another game that doesn't get any harder on subsequent loops so one loop is fine.

I thought this was my last life so paused the emulator here and took a pic. I game over'd on my next life anyway. Could not beat final boss.

That’s annoying. What’s the point of points if they just go away? In situations like this, they really are a holdover from the arcade. Grew up with the master system version, which I love. That shows the score on the title screen and demo, the way nature intended.

NES Qbert does the same thing. Spoils an otherwise good port.

 

One of the most baffling examples of this is Columns for Sega Master System. Score disappears on game over. If there's any genre where high score matters, it's Tetris style puzzlers.

Hard game and a bit frustrating when you get hit, lose your power up, and find you have to dodge certain enemies bc your peashooter does squat. Also, I like that the sound when entering that giant head is the ghost sound from duck tales awoohoo.

Saw this in Legendary Wings while failing to beat the game again (so close, though) -- I'm not fluid in fictional-world hieroglyphics, so speculation time.  Whatcha think this says?

Yeah the dragon is just the mid boss. After that, there's one last horizontal shooter section before you face the final boss of the level.

 

There's only 5 levels so they're pretty long.

I finished the game twice (my other score was a bit lower)  I like the game a lot, but not sure how I can squeeze out any more points in a single run.   Time to have a look at the list and see what's next.  ?

Think I might be over Legendary Wings, so good thing we have so many other games to play! Haha. Got a new high in Popeye, but still behind the awesome score from @mbd39. What I like about the ship level is punching that vulture for a cool 1K. What I don’t like is everything else. Getting Bluto after the spinach is hit or miss, literally, since he can jump over platform gaps and you can’t. Then there’s the letters that shoot to the bottom, where you do not want to be. But the worst is that the ladder does nothing, and you would expect to be able to climb it as you build it higher, especially considering you can climb the ladder in the first screen. Still, love the game, despite those issues.
