One thing that annoys me about English--    if you are going to import a word from a foreign language-   either keep the spelling and pronounce it according to English rules or keep the pronunciation and spell it according to the way it should pronounced, but not both!   It creates too many exceptions to the rules of the language.

Yes, I've been publically embarassed pronouncing "hors-de-vours" the way it is spelt if you couldn't tell ?

That's the thing though - it's not imported into English. It is just an Italian word. It's not an English word. It is spelled and pronounced as originally intended, in Italian.

English speakers need to move out of their comfort zone and simply learn to pronounce non-English words correctly.

It's not like phonetics rules apply 100% of the time to English anyway.

Fuck it and the dictionary it's written in. I say it like I spell it and I spell it like I say it.

Honestly, if enough people say "con-sert-to" for long enough then that's actually how the word becomes to be said.  That's how language works and evolves. ??‍♂️

Or devolves. ;)

But yes, we don't all speak Proto-Indo-European (or its ancestors) for a reason.
