Just a piece of information,
a circular sticker with "NEW" written on the boxes is sufficient for
say ..... this is another variant ?????

Absolutely my Friend!

For me, the meaning of "variant" is a game having some peculiarity made by the publisher that makes it different from its brothers.

The "NEW" sticker is detail way sufficient to let me desire a game!???

I agree that we are using the term variant a bit too widely…

Gee I wish for the past 20+ years I have been collecting Intellivision I hadn't removed all those round red new stickers. "I do not like them Sam I am!" None of the products with the sticker were new to the Intellivision system. All were old stock with a new sticker. How wrong can one guy be about collecting?

You're not wrong, lol

Not only have I never considered the NEW stickers to count as variants, I have purposely sought out copies of those games that did NOT have them for my 125 collection. I don't have any particular issue with them, just that I prefer the boxes to have a clean look with nothing covered up. I also take no issue with people who choose to collect them as variants. Everyone has to define their collection for themselves.

Just my opinion, but i do not think the Intelliv. Inc. Boxes with "New" sticker (signifying it is an actual INTV release) is a true Variant box. Maybe a sub-category of variant, but not substantually different. It just shows that it was extra stock from Intellivision Inc. that was sold by INTV corp.

But what do i know... im now collecting software intellivision boxes as a variant so...

Please provide pictures of your basketball box, as per needs for the Intellivision variant database. This will help

greatly in sorting out the “NEW’’ sticker variants.

Well, I do agree that a sticker does not mean Variant in the litteral sense…

But, when you get totally sick, badly addicted collecting, have already the 125, most of the variants (I mean all serial numbers, made in USA, HK, etc.) the French Canadians, most of the foreign publishers (Digiplay, Aurimat, Australian, etc) a little sticker becomes extremely relevant !!!?????

If the stickers are not applied in the exact same location on each box, then each box is its own variant.

You collection completists will be sorely pressed to collect every NEW labeled box that has it in a slightly different location on the box

Here you are, box in bad condition....

What makes that a variant to me are the un-rounded white label cart and yellow paper overlays. Actual changes from the original release and even other II versions of Basketball, not a sticker that was randomly placed on some copies of the game.

HOWEVER, I fully support others wanting to collect these as variants and will offer up any I happen to pick up in a lot. I'll let you guys know if I come across any.

Yeah, stickers…we Germans love our stickers too. ;)

Especially with stickers over wrong stickers.

Stampede over a Pitfall sticker. And Happy Trails over a Happy Trails for Atari VCS sticker. Which is of course a total misprint.

Stickers on the foreign Intellivision boxes, might be a next step, but for now, having the pictures of International box variants will be sufficient.

Very cool those german stickers for Activision games Mike!

If one day I’ll have a chance, I will buy them for sure!

Did they come with a german manual by any chance?

That is so interesting.

Notice that the German distribution printed the sticker as a Mattel Electronics game instead of Activision.

The sticker says: playable on the Intellivision by Mattel Electronics. Distributed by Ariola (which is a record company and part of BMG). And the German name for Happy Trails is: A case for the Sheriff.

it only states, that the game is playable on an Intellivision, by Mattel Electronics, this being a direct translation from German to English.

"Ein Fall Fur Den Sheriff" translates to "Happy Trails".

Nope... it translates to "A Case for the Sheriff".

That was a direct translation also.

Its an interesting mis-translated decal regardless.

If Ariola was the German distributor of intellivision games, wouldnt this be an actual Variant?

It's not mis translated, it's freely translated, because Happy Trails sounds strange in German: Fröhliche Pfade? wth ;)

The German title for Stampede is Lassohelden: Lasso heroes.

Pitfall is Abenteuer im Urwald (Adventure in the jungle) Pitfall in German would be: Falle

Interesting to say the least. When I have Distributed the main Box variant list publicly, it will be easy to ad other variant Information in from countries around the world.
