Are these apps still just links to the Chrome equivalent? Not built for the VCS?

Yes, with a few exceptions, most notable being Antstream.

These don't get announced by Atari when they get released, so it has proven more difficult to track these by release date, but looking at the apps tonight looks like one was released on 9/16/23 called Nebula. Unsure what it is at the moment, really.

I think it's a paid video service?   I watched a youtuber yesteday make a pitch to join Nebula and subscribe to his content to see his videos sooner.

Well I broke down and ordered the VCS. Christmas gift to self. Eternally optimistic and loyal I am excited for a good out of the box experience. Or I’ll be turning to my good folks here.

It's a fun little box.  Most likely you will be turning to some of us here for help at some point.  Another good place to go is the Atari VCS Discord server.  You can get lots of help there too.  As for out of the box...hard wire with your cat5 or cat6 cable to your router.  This will hopefully get you the updates you need in a quick and efficient manner.  If not then you will have to make a USB 3.1 or higher flash drive of the OS and BIOS files.  You will find them on the aforementioned Discord server.  After you have updated the VCS, don't forget to update the firmware in the controllers too!  Good luck!

Thank you very much. I will be prepared as you suggested. Already joined the Atari VCS discord server. I will go at it like an innocent unknowing, enjoy the brand experience until I need to pull out the tool box. Never thought I’d see this day that I was buying an Atari product from Atari so even that much is appreciated already. Thanks again!

@joeatari1 I would like to be prepared for the worse and have the bios usb ready. (I hope not to have to use it thought) but could you send me the link to what I will need to download to the usb so that if I have to flash the bios I will be ready? I love Atari obvi, I wish there was a way to help them keep this info on their main site for users. But I’m not kg complaining, I appreciate what they are doing to survive these times.

Here is the link to the Discord server.  If you go to the troubleshooting channel, you will see pinned messages in the top right.  There are videos and a link to the google drive file with the latest firmware.  Hope this helps.  Oh, BTW, use Balena Etcher to create the USB drive.  It is the easiest and most reliable method.
