8-Bit Software: A Preservation Effort

SoulBuster

Recommended Posts

If you have previously picked up Dimension X, you should checkout the POST again as it has been updated with a proper recording along with a version that reduces clipping and maintains the original timing of the music and one that offsets the music so it can finish before the data.

Terrific work SoulBuster, how much more have you to go, and what is the strategy (if any) with what gets archived next?

Whatever is in the nearest box? :)

Also, if you have any menu / pirate disks, will you be doing those too? (hoping so, not that I want to extend your use of free time more)

Moonbase IO - Autoboot cassette with audio track.  I updated this with single pass recording that I only modified by clipping noise off the ends. I do not know what I was thinking on that previous set.  I still cannot make a CAS for it, but then again, there should not be one when second audio is used.

I have everything sorted alphabetically.  I started with the magazine disks as they were in their own box. Cassettes were going to be the hardest, so I concentrated there.  When there was also a disk version I archive that at the same time.

You may have noticed that I moved to disks for awhile.  I found that the cassette player I was using mixed stereo down to mono (The Dimension X Anomaly) with both left and right on the same track.  I ordered a stereo cassette player ($20 on Amazon that was to be used to record tapes to mp3) and had to wait for it to arrive.  Now that it is here, I am finishing off the cassettes, two left that are giving me major problems and I might not be able to get them (AT-PB1 Atari Pinball and T.G.I.F).

I have completed about 1/5 of the Original disks that I have and I am going to dump carts too (about 100).  If I do menu disks, I will create new ones.  There is a 3 sec load menu that looks promising if it will do double density.  They will not contain anything that I have already dumped.

I have also been looking through my books. I have way too many and will only be dumping ones that I cannot already find on the internet from here on out.

Wow, very organised and a wise choice re the books, there's work and then there's too much work..

Mega commitment and so appreciated by all of us, some of us have been down the same path, I dumped what I had before I lost and to Aaron in New Zealand to be part of his Holmes DVD's, also passed on a load of cassettes and Atari Users to him (shipping cost was massive). But if we all do this, those mega rare little titles etc often pop up this way..

Thanks again..

Paul..

Clayton Walnum's Yahtzee modified to talk using the voice master system.  Yes that is my voice in there.  The README is signed by Hexxor, a handle I used to use. Requires BASIC and expanded RAM.
