SkyPilot
Are there any all-in-one C64 emulators available to check out?
+Bruce-Robert Pocock
The two main ones are Frodo and VICE. I prefer VICE personally, it includes all of Commodore's 8-bit machines, command-line tools for working with D64 type disk image files, and cycle-accurate disk drive emulation (with drive sound effects!).
brain
Is Frodo currently being maintained? I thought MAME and VICE were the only two options being currently maintained. Jim
carlsson
It seems that Christian Bauer is planning a complete rewrite of Frodo V5, but the current version is a bit old, just like e.g. CCS64. To be honest, other than for possibly personal reasons I don't see why anyone would want to use something else than VICE.
+OLD CS1
7 hours ago, brpocock@star-hope.org said: drive sound effects Yuck. VICE is pretty cool that you can associate with T64, D64, &c., so you can just click on the file and it will open and run in VICE. 1
jrhodes
I used CCS64 for awhile in my DOS days. Now though, i just use Vice.
bjonte
There are interesting contenders though.Z64k is a closed source java application. It is slower than VICE and I don’t know how good the emulation of the C64 is but it has more accurate C128 emulation than VICE.Denise is an emulator that reduces input lag by emulating frames into the future for a limited set of input variations. Quite interesting feature.
