Season Standings:

 

General HSC Season Rules:

• To participate, just post a score to the thread. Anyone can join in at any time.
• A picture or screenshot is encouraged when posting a score but not required.
• The season is 15 rounds long.
• Games will be posted on Sundays and run two weeks through Sunday at 11:59 PM CST.
• Do not exploit game glitches, take advantage of 1-up loops or intentionally die in order to replay a level.
• If "point pressing" is not specified in the game rules you should be moving forward in an attempt to complete/loop the game and not "camping" for points.
• No emulator save states, slow-mo, rewind, etc.
• No cheats, e.g. Konami code, Game Genie, etc.
• Turbo controllers are allowed.

This game is a bit weird. Very smooth, but the handling is strange. The car looses the grip almost instantly, so the only way I could do some progress is to brake in almost every corner. And there's the "up" to turbo, and since it seems it's good to go turbo most of the time, the game essentially has 2 acceleration buttons. Up to acelarate just doesn't work well on a dpad, so I had to fetch the arcade stick. It's alright for a 87 game thoguh.

I love this game, but it probably kills my hand more than any other game.

Not a bad idea...tried it, but I have to admit I was terrible. Tried my quick shot thumb pad type controller, did even worse. Whatever you do tho, don’t try the power glove. Broke that out last year when we played- pretty much nonfunctional, as is the case with the power glove. You want it to be so rad so bad, but it ends up so bad so bad. 

 

I always thought the game was fun, just so hard. I used to check out the later levels with game genie. It’ll take consistent play to get the hang of these courses. I really dig the second stage. I was pretty close to that checkpoint too.

I had heard you could wreck by hitting certain cars while going too fast, but I thought that was in Rad Racer II only.  Turns out I was wrong.  An unexpected crash cost me the race.

I didn't win the race, but I did flip a Ferrari a few times in the air without getting a single scratch on it.  So that was satisfying.

I don’t think I really appreciated this one enough when I was a kid.  I remember playing it a bit, but it just didn’t seem like anything special.  I’m sure I wasn’t mature enough to understand the concepts of using brakes when the goal was “go fast.”

But yeah, I’m digging it quite a bit now that I’m focused on reaching the end.

This was weird… so, I finished the game, but couldn’t get a screenshot because it seems stuck on the ending.   As in, I get the congratulations and the ending cut scene, but no way to see the score.  And here’s the weird part – pressing reset doesn’t restart the game.  It just restarts the ending. 

 

On a positive (to me) note, seeing the ending was so familiar, I think I must have finished this game as a kid.  I didn’t have game genie or anything like that, but I remembered the ending so well once it started, I think I had to have finished it.
 

Fun fact:  I ran out of time and coasted across the finish line.  ?

Managed to get past stages 1 and 6 without crashing any cars.  That 50K bonus really pumps up the score!  Hope to spend some time trying to finish this one this week.  You guys mentioned it had an ending, right?  Or does it just go on and repeat?

Yes there is an ending after scene 16 but then it keeps repeating. I don't think difficulty increases either.

Thanks for catching that.  I think I assumed you were already at the top of the list and didn't even look at the name next to the score before I updated it.
