F-18 Hornet

Hello,

 

I recently found a F-18 Hornet cartridge that was in good shape.  It boots up fine both at title screen and mission select screen.  Unfortunately,  Once mission 1 or 2 is chosen the screen goes black.  If I choose mission 3, it turns to an orange color and will not load any further.  I cleaned the contacts and keep getting the same results.  Any help would be greatly appreciated?  Thank You.

Hmm... honestly it sounds like it is probably an eprom version of the game as was quite common from Absolute back then. I had an F-14 Tomcat for the 7800 that died within the first month I had it and was pretty bummed. I actually got my F-18 game as an exchange because they didn't have anymore of the F-14 games. If you take a pic from the PCB edge it is usually easy to tell if it is an eprom game as the inverter chip is usually visible. But the fact that it does start up only craps out when you choose a mission leads me to strongly believe the cart is at fault here.

Thank You.  Yes, it does have a chip.  That seemed a bit unusual to me.  I can’t recall if I have seen that before.  I never realized that.  I guess I may have to take the small loss here.
