Steven Pendleton
Remember when I said this last year? On 7/30/2021 at 12:04 PM, Steven Pendleton said: Nintendo, or anyone else for that matter, probably wouldn't warn an individual, they'd just hit them with the banhammer and be done with it. No way, it's like I am right~ This was an unexpected necro, BTW, but still interesting to see.

Check the post a few posts ago and you'll find someone discussing getting the banhammer with no warning.
Tanooki
18 hours ago, roots.genoa said: Yes but people tend to forget physical games are not as definitive as people think they are. You own a copy of the game, not the game itself. So it's like buying a license that allows you to play that copy on a specific system. It doesn't give you the right to download the ROM or even dump the game yourself to play it on your phone, for instance, which most people don't know about. Oh yeah I get that. It's an interesting gray area because someone would have to prove you downloaded it, dumping it is legit if you have the tools within the country, at least here, maybe France is different. Here you get the license and you have rights t one copy, so even if you made 3 you couldn't legally fire up a Gameboy, a computer GB Emulator, and an android one at the same time not that you'd get caught. Tanooki
THis was a double post, but why not reply to the last couple. Yes it's necro, but relevant. Nintendo dropped the hammer on a cheat, but in an even more heinous way as losing an account basically means they legally can be assholes and steal every legal game you paid for too which is bullshit. Someone could make a mistake or get accused of a mistake (hacked/stolen password to legit account) by not their own means and lose thousands of dollars in games they're cut off from because...TOS. I could get my switch banned right now, everything on the shelf behind me I can still play, but if I were that guy in the story and it was all rental ware, I'd have NO games anymore too which is awful. Steven Pendleton
Yeah, I don't like buying digital games at all, except for maybe on GOG because GOG is the best.

But it was a story from like 20 years ago and basically a scam. So that's a terrible example in my book.

Well yeah, even if you get thrown off and lose the account, any of the games you grab the downloader for you control. That's why they're great. Tanooki
...and when dudeguy finally calmed down after he thought he escaped and it was over, as he woke up in the morning he was staring at a yoshi head on the pillow next to him. 1
roots.genoa
And then he got an email from Nintendo the same day, with an offer he couldn't refuse about a family subscription for the Nintendo Switch Online. The email unpleasantly insisted that it's "nice to have a family".
Steven Pendleton
And then the email said "Actually, I am in really bad shape financially. I pay money to my ex-wife as part of our divorce settlement, among other bills... I just had no choice but to make you pay for lunch the other day. I'm really sorry," and, finally, "Raiden, turn the game console off right now!"
