mac 1984 Mac Classic and The Penny

A friend recently bought a Mac Classic and was working to get it running, when he found something that frankly shocked both of us. That was a penny, both the computer and the penny have a 1984 date. Has anyone here have ever seen anything like this before?

Wow, that's odd. What's behind it, and what's holding it on? Solder?

There's a jumper in that location that the penny seems to be sitting on top of.  Maybe they ran out of wire?  Wouldn't be my preferred method of repair though, as the penny could make unwanted or even hazardous contact with several nearby components.

My niece often threw coins and small dolls through the hole of the bass-reflex loudspeakers. I found out one day when I disassembled the speaker to change the rubbers.

In the case of the Mac, it is a bit more complicated because the ventilation slots are in its lower part, but the floppy slot could also be an access point for a child with imagination.
