cubejunky
I recently dug out my old Commodore 64, and decided to hook it up. Well at first it was slow to start up, and the keyboard didn’t respond, so I cleaned the connectors on the keyboard, and it was still slow but the keyboard worked. Fast forward 2 hours later, I went back to it to mess with it and it’s stuck on a black screen, if I turn it off and on a few times it will eventually load into basic. Any idea what the problem is? Or know of someone who repairs them? I’m not good with a soldering iron due to a issue with shaking hands if that’s what it needs.
Arnuphis
Firstly, if you are using the original C64 power supply STOP RIGHT NOW. Do not ever use it again or get a c64 saver to plug in between the PSU and C64. Depending on your model (breadbin/C64c) it could be the PLA. Good news is replacements are easy to find. But firstly you want to ensure you get a trusted power supply and go from there. The C64 is so popular you will have no shortage of resources to get it back up and running. cubejunky
After initial testing I haven’t used the original power supply, my model is based off what Google images showed me the “breadbin” model. Wonder if a new power supply would fix my issue? Or if I will need new parts like the PLA?
