MarkTheStrange
I've noticed that I can't load the standard VIC-20 DOS Wedge that comes with the 1541 if I'm also using the Super Expander cartridge (which sadly doesn't provide any disk commands itself). Anyone have an alternative wedge that gets along with the expanded BASIC?
carlsson
Without studying the details, I suppose both may hijack the input parsing vector at $0073 with own code to interpret their own commands. If that is so, I'm afraid that no other tool would help unless you merge two packages into one, or at least jump from one routine to the next instead of into ROM for the standard commands. It probably would be doable to modify e.g. the DOS wedge in that way but again I haven't looked into exactly what is happening.
bjonte
How about JiffyDOS? I haven’t tried but I would be surprised if that wouldn’t work.
carlsson
I found an improved wedge here (821 bytes). Upon testing in emulation with Super Expander enabled (either with +3K or unexpanded), the two seem to coexist, if you make sure to NEW memory after installing the wedge. http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/vic20/utilities/unexpanded/index.html Note that the two together will eat some memory. If you enable a graphics screen, you will have used up all the built-in memory, leaving the 3K in the expansion for your own programs. Since the Super Expander is only 4K ROM, I wonder if it would be possible to relocate the wedge to run from ROM, if you have the means to either make your own cartridges or at least soft load ROM images, freeing more RAM. But the important part is that both actually seem to work together, at least when I tested it with GRAPHICS 1, SOUND x,x,x,x,x and >$ to read the directory.
