Tanooki
I looked. I know a lot of games from various systems, but seeing that list much like others, the most obnoxious list of random stuff most people would have no idea largely what they are outside of a few key titles. It is really a quiz or more like a google image search easter egg hunt? Just ban me from the thread so I'm not tempted to keep reading this insanity. I've enjoyed gaming quizzes online for over 20 years, until now.
+jgkspsx
Many of these are not obscure games at all… also many of them are really great games. (Watch, I’ll be wrong about half of them…)
+jgkspsx
(Of course, this is maybe my very favorite genre, or it least it was for most of the last twenty years.)
Tanooki
I think it's the fact you would seek out every game and know it in a genre you consider likely your favorite so of course they wouldn't be obscure. To the normal person who goes after all sorts of variety, I'd call 2-3 of those answerable without having to put a lot of effort into it.

I've enjoyed gaming quizzes online for over 20 years, until now. Ouch. But I understand what you mean, to really find out every game seems like an inhumane effort. I believe solving it involves lots of clever google research as well as sifting through gaming data bases and steam tags (for more modern games). I know I am the one making these puzzles, but being confronted with one (sometimes other users create some too) I don't actually do very well. I always try to go for a compromise - have the first row be easy, the second be okay, and the latter ones harder until the last one includes screen fragments I'd consider "impossible" to solve. And yet, round after round, several players find out all 25. I worry about them sometimes! ? Nobody wants to ban you from the thread, live and let live and maybe there's going to be a topic in the coming year that exactly fits your gaming niche.
Mr_Horizon
November Quiz - Clues #1 Well, found the double jump yet? Unlocked the grappling hook, discovered the Ice Beam behind the waterfall or finally got the Air Dash in your repertoire? The first twenty players have already jumped into the Metroidvania round, and I'd like to motivate the rest of you with this first batch of hints as well. Hints #1: 1) Pictures 1 to 12 show the/one protagonist of the game. 2) Title 5 is a recent game with a distinctive "black hole head" main character. Released this August for PC, console ports to follow. 3) Number 3 is this year's sequel to a successful Metroidvania indie game. 4) Game 6 is also a sequel, kickstarter-funded and available on all major systems since 2020. Deadline is Tuesday the 30th of November, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here's the quiz again, good luck: link Edited November 12, 2021 by Mr_Horizon

Oh shoot. 1) I guess I got 11 wrong, then 2) still no clue. 3) I said the first game because I haven’t gotten around to the sequel yet. Hopefully that will count. 4) oh shoot, I remember what this is now. I just ordered both for two different systems. Poo. Just open the form again, add name+forum and leave all else free except the fields you want to add/update. In the end everything gets added together and for every numbered field the last entry is the one that gets graded.

Mr_Horizon
November Quiz - Clues #2 We are nearing the end of this quiz year, time for some Metroidvania backtracking! Have you really examined all the clues and scoured all the corners of the map to find the remaining games? So far you can still reach the top 10 with less than 20 points! The Metroidvania genre is still relatively new and this also applies to the games in this round: Only two of them were released before 2000 (!), three from the 00s, five from the current 20s... and a whole fifteen from the last decade. A complete departure to the Atari quiz of the previous month. Are you ready for the final batch of clues? Clues #2: 1) Game 16 is a Japanese indie classic, old enough to order a beer in the UK or Germany. Only three games in this round are older. 2) Number 19 is an 80s sci-fi Metroidvania that has appeared on several computers, but no consoles. 3) If you want to try a different jumping mechanic, you should play title 17. Runs on all modern systems! 4) In game 9 you explore several planets, the name starts with "X". Deadline is Tuesday the 30th of November, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here's the quiz again, good luck: https://i.imgur.com/pIZpeA9.png
+jgkspsx
For quick reference: If y’all haven’t played 16, you should get on it! It was my introduction to indie games as a concept. I never had 19 as a kid, but I saw it advertised in CoCo magazines. I have it now! If only I could get one of my CoCos working… @Mr_Horizon if there is one more round of hints I would love hints for 22-25. They all seem really familiar but I can’t get them.
Mr_Horizon
November Quiz- Clues #3 Say, is everyone on holiday already? The last weekend of November is upon us and just fifty people have sent in their entries! One of them from this forum. Now then, because it's almost Christmas.... I bring you presents in the form of a third serving of hints. And in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, you now have to give me something too, so please join the game. @jeremiahjt @BydoEmpire Are you ready for the (really!) last batch of clues? Clues #3: 1) The first letters of the first three rows, strung together, make the words McAbgast Xatioby.... no, unfortunately I haven't found a nice anagram! 2) Number 7 is originally a game for the Xbox 360, a later update also appeared on other systems. 3) There are also films and/or series for games 2, 8 and 10. 4) Title 12 uses several songs by a well-known black metal band in its soundtrack. Deadline is next Tuesday the 30th November, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here's the quiz one last time, good luck: https://i.imgur.com/pIZpeA9.png
+jgkspsx
8 starts with T? And it’s based on a movie? Okay, it is not what I thought it was (Dark Void Zero). Hmmm. Seems very familiar. +jgkspsx
Americans at least of a Color Computer-loving persuasion are more likely to know Sacred Armor of Antitrad as RAD WARRIOR published by Epyx. It looks like that answer counted as well I have heard of Touhou Luna Nights but haven’t played it. I said Timespinner for that even though I knew it was probably wrong since that’s not the main character. I swear I’ve been in a boss fight with somebody with a lot of knives, though. I initially said Dark Void Zero instead of The Mummy Demastered. Amazing game, blows actual Dark Void out of the water Looking forward to trying the ones I didn’t know.

Mr_Horizon
February Quiz - Cooking Kitchen Hey, it's 2022 and so it's time for the new (ninth!) season of quizzes. Once again, from February to November, you'll each get a quiz from me in which you have to guess the correct games from 25 picture fragments. Your points will be collected for you and evaluated in a high score list at the end of each round (at the end of the year also for your forum!). This round is about "cooking"... so from real cooking games to food-based minigames to kitchens in computer games. How many do you recognise? Of course, I will have left out one or two "perfect genre representatives", but that's difficult to avoid and makes the quiz a little less predictable. Deadline is Monday 28 February, enter via http://www.retrogamequiz.com/ Here comes the quiz, bon appetit: Direct link: https://i.imgur.com/STFWl0E.png
