justclaws
Hi all, Although everybody here, probably also has a real hardware Atari 7800, some of you may have interest also in the Atari VCS, and so I'll just mention this once. Week 1... 2021-10-15 -- Desert Falcon - $2.99 2021-10-15 -- Basketbrawl - $2.99 Week 2... 2021-10-22 -- Ninja Golf - $2.99 2021-10-22 -- Scrapyard Dog - $2.99 Week 3... 2021-10-29 -- Dark Caverns - $2.99 Week 4... 2021-11-05 - Motor Psycho - $2.99 Week 5... 2021-11-12 - Planet Smashers - $2.99 Newsweek announced it also, yesterday, along with other publications. Details in the article. https://www.newsweek.com/new-atari-vcs-review-retro-tech-meets-geek-chic-1638846 I disconnected my 7800, and took it over to the big TV to show it how it's later successor can play the same games I have on cartridge, too. I don't think it was upset. It deserves a bit of rest, now. ? 5
PacManPlus
That's funny; I e-mailed them a few weeks ago asking them about a 7800 emulator (I plan on getting one of these after the new year).

justclaws
Other Atari systems on the VCS will follow, also. 7800 just the first. Playing Desert Falcon on the VCS with the new Classic joystick is so good, but of course also works with VCS Modern controllers. Happily now I am on a train practicing Desert Falcon again on my Blaze Atari Retro Handheld too. ? Atari days!

Desert Falcon is an underrated classic and I am curious what else they plan to offer on the console. This is a good move for them, as I have been critical of Atari not offering more software for the VCS.
justclaws
Last Friday (2nd Flashback Friday) Games Now Released! 2021-10-22 -- Ninja Golf - $2.99 2021-10-22 -- Scrapyard Dog - $2.99 There's a thread devoted to the re-releases on the VCS also. ?
TailChao
Haven't seen this posted anywhere else, so sorry if it's a rehash - but looks like the VCS's 7800 implementation is based upon MAME 0.230 from Atari's GPL compliance release. Blaze is using the libretro implementation of ProSystem in the Evercade, so I'd wager the handheld is doing something similar. The more you know.

Unfortunately then, by utilizing MAME for Atari 7800 emulation, the bottom portion of the screen during the sewer levels of Scrapyard Dog will be incorrectly displayed. The issue is fixed, among other improvements, utilizing A7800 instead. MAME: A7800:

Yep, visible in this review. At least Atari complied with the licensing here, that in itself is rare. Now I wonder where Antstream's stuff was forked from, heh. justclaws
I can't find my Atari 7800 PSU, so it was great to play this last night, also. We completed the game A-Z, and then next time, we'll play a higher level again, I do find the lack of a save function on the VCS emulation disappointing though. I hope it will be added along the line, but for now, it plays just like on the 7800.
justclaws
Atari 7800 Motor Psycho hits the Atari VCS store today! As a long-time biker, (well until I was 30), I'm happy with that one for today. ? Oh, and good news, I found my Atari 7800 PSU. Does anybody have a solution for getting a spare without a 2nd mortgage? ?

justclaws
Thank you for the tip about the replacement PSU. - The problem is likely to be enormous USA -> NL postage, and import duty, but I'll check. (I need a $99 power switch for the Jaguar; a USA source wants over $35 to post it so far.) The new release for Atari VCS Flashback Fridays today is "Planet Smashers" btw. ? (That's another game I have on cartridge, but will now be able to play HDMI quality.)

I don't know much about this handheld. Yes and yes. However, it plays most 7800 games too fast, which can be its own fun alternative or no-fun problem. I've dismissed this handheld in the past because I didn't like the look of the d pad. Maybe I could 3d print a replacement.
