Finally getting a Switch

Ordered a Switch yesterday and should be here tomorrow. I'm personally not that interested in it but daughter wanted us to get one and granddaughter has been asking for one (other daughter says no as the kids will be fighting over it) so thought "what the hell", get one for when she's over as well.

Are there any game recommendations that would suit a lifelong Nintendo gamer (daughter) and an 8 year old (granddaughter)? Any good games that use the motion controllers?

Switch isn't largely known for the motion controls.  I mean there are a few games fairly specific to it like 123 Switch and Snipperclips, but mostly when you pop them off, it's a cheap way to have a pair of controllers when playing.  They learned their lesson fairly so on having gimmicky not always works right waggle play with the Wii.

That said, as far as recommendations, first party games largely are a safe bet, some more than others especially if you're not into some obsessive types with online with smash and kart, kart still has a decent single player at least.  Third party there's actually so much variety it may be a bit too hard to give recommendations because it's not disrespected like Wii kind of was, and both reviled and ignored like WiiU was so there's a ton of third party games.  Some sure are ports of PS3/PS4ish era stuff, some more are also mobile releases but boosted in quality too, but there are quite a lot of solid games.

It may help to find out what she and the kid prefer with games, old favorites maybe, certain genres, then someone can construct a list as the games on this, quantity wise is ridiculous.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would be good.

Super Smash Bros. Deluxe might be good, although I'm not sure how much they'd get into the fighting game.

If they haven't played either one before, both New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Super Mario 3D Land are good, multiplayer Mario games.

Zelda is great, but that might be beyond multiplayer gaming sessions.  Luigi's Mansion 3 is fun and offers multiplayer.
