+pboland
I was thinking about how many scrolling games originally came out for the O2 and the only one I can think of is "Freedom Fighters" Is that the only one?
Tempest
That's a really interesting question. I'm going to have to dig through my O2 titles now and check. I bet some of the fancier Videopac titles do.
Lost Monkey
Freedom Fighters doesn't really have any "scrolling" either - as in there is no background - scrolling is inferred by the movement of the spaceships.
+atari2600land
Technically speaking, I don't think the Odyssey 2 CAN scroll backgrounds. It can draw grids, but it can't scroll them. It can draw characters and sprites andyou can move them one pixel at a time, which is I guess the only way it can scroll anything.

I was aware that it wasn't "real" scrolling, but the way it's done in the game works quite well. It very fluid and smooth when playing for being fake scrolling.
Lost Monkey
I guess Speedway would kind of fit the bill then too.

Also what about "Cosmic Conflict" (and that does kind of have a background of stars)?
TomBeck
Maybe the programmer from the past can`t do this, but we had wonderful homebrews for Videopac/Odyssey2 that can scroll. First we had Cavity from Revival Studios= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAVZnIU7gS8 Then we had Down from Revival Studios= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XRM_L2V6fQ An other kind of scrolling we find in Laser Blitz from Videopac Belgium= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsFQN2aLzDY
+atari2600land
Cavity is just redrawing grids over and over again really fast to make it look like it was scrolling. You'll notice it isn't very smooth in the YouTube video. I bet Down was made with the colors of the background changing rapidly as well, allowing for much smoother animation. As for Laser Blitz, it looks like a Jopac game with + graphics.

I was questioning if Down might be a G7400 as well only because the background has very fine dots to it. Anyway, to be honest I'm not really interested in G7400/O3 stuff as that's not really something I have much accessto here in the states (other then with emulation and I prefer real hardware). As to scrolling, I do like the way Cavity scrolls. I get that it's not technically scrolling, but it is a way for O2 to scroll.
TomBeck
All games I show you work on G7000/Odyssey2 and G7400/Jopac. Laser Blitz: The "plus graphics for G7400/Jopac" are only the blue Mountains with the stars on the top, the words "Laser Blitz / lives / score and power" and the red color at the bottom. I post a pic how the game look , when you put the same cartridge into a G7000/O2. Down: The "plus graphics" are here only the blue static background. When you put the same cartridge into a G7000/Odyssey2 is the background black. The game is the same and it`s fun and fast. Unfortunatly, I have no pic without the blue background. So you must only replace the blue background with black in your mind. ? Cavity: This game has only a "plus" cover screen at G7400/Jopac. The game look the same at G7400 and G7000/Odyssey2. I post a pic from the cover screen.
timdu
Would the homebrew HAPPY BIRD! count as a scrolling game? https://youtu.be/EqDAI76ZhtU?t=165 Also in the homebrew MEAN SANTA, programmer Rafael Cardoso made it appear as though Santa is flying through the night-time sky and it appears as though the screen is scrolling from the right to the left. The trees below are also moving from right to left as well. It gives the appearance of scrolling. Or do you think this was this one of Rafael's programming tricks? https://youtu.be/ZluKV8aLtgk?t=120 Shameless plug: I still offer both of these games for sale. The game is available as a loose game cartridge and manual, or I can even provide a durable, black hard plastic box for an additional expense. Send me a private message for more information and details or visit the web pages: HAPPY BIRD: http://timduarte.blogspot.com/2018/03/happy-bird-for-odyssey2.html MEAN SANTA: http://timduarte.blogspot.com/2018/03/mean-santa-for-odyssey2.html thanks, Tim Edited November 13, 2021 by timdu

youki
Super Cobra, there is a "kind of" scrolling.
