Atari 5200 version:Kooky Klimber 2021.rom

Attached are the 8bit and 5200 versions Kooky Klimber 2021 that was submitted in the ABBUC 2021 software contest.

This game is an update to our Atari BASIC game written in 1983 and available here: http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-kooky-klimber_31437.html.

The gameplay is (obviously) similar to the classic arcade game Crazy Climber. You must reach the top of the building by avoiding getting your hands caught in closing windows, while also being careful not to get hit by dropped dumbbells, flower pots, or falling signs.   To move up to the next story of the building, you must push forward on the joystick.    You can move left and right to dodge falling objects and closing windows by pushing left and right on the joystick.   Once you near the top of the building, the objects quit falling because there are no windows above you from which they would fall.   Once you reach the top of the building, you are whisked away by a helicopter and start all over at the bottom of the next building.  Each successive building brings additional falling objects and faster closing/opening windows.  In the course of your climb, the people inhabiting the building will be opening and closing the windows.   If one of these windows should close on your hands, you will find yourself falling head first towards the bottom of the building.  A second nemesis directed towards Kooky is the falling objects. Clumsy residents above have a deadly habit of knocking flowerpots off of their windowsills.  Construction workers are continually dropping steel girders which flip through the air while they fall.

The gameplay for Kooky Klimber 2021 is simple – reach the top of the building by avoiding getting your hands caught in closing windows, while also being careful not to get hit by dropped dumbbells, flower pots, or falling signs.

We hope you enjoy this game!

The original Kooky Klimber was submitted and purchased by COMPUTE! magazine in 1983.  Unfortunately the game was never published in the magazine.  Two years later, we received a letter from COMPUTE! saying the game was being released back to us.

Attached is the correspondence from 1983-1985 from COMPUTE! magazine regarding Kooky Klimber.

Awesome, I loved Crazy Climber. Is there is a whole Kooky series? (I remember Kooky Diver.) The falling down music sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. Thanks, very cool!

Yes, there are three in the series: Kooky Klimber, Kooky's Quest, and Kooky Diver.

Here are the other two links:

And the falling down music is from Bubble Bobble.
