gamer-stu
I bought a for parts/not working IIc that does run but won’t do disk operations. So after debugging, cleaning the drive, checking voltages, RAM, testing with a Floppy Emu, I’ve come to the conclusion that the IIc likely has a bad IWM. When I removed the board to inspect the underside, I found a note confirming my suspicion (picture attached). I LOLed but also was a little miffed that this message wasn’t put on the outside of the case instead of hidden underneath the board. Everything I’ve read indicates that the IWM chip is unobtainium short of harvesting from another source. Is that still the case, or has anyone created an FPGA IWM or unearthed a mystical warehouse with boxes of integrated Woz machines?
Baldrick
I pulled one out of a scrapped Mac Plus once. Otherwise you're right, they're hard to come by. IWM failures are pretty rare.
