Deadlier Disc - Tron Rebooted

I have released an updated version of Deadly Disc. Below is the manual showing all the changes. Major changes to game play are:

- returning disc will kill

- side buttons can be used to shoot and block

- color scheme updates

- lower points to see other warriors

- more randomness in game play for warriors and recognizer

I have only played Solar Sailer for 5-10 minutes.  I don't know why?

Maybe, this will inspire me to try this game again?

 

I don't know what you could add to Adventures of Tron?  But in for a dime, in for a dollar.  LOL

Solar Sailer is done! The game did not need many changes. Below is the running list of changes. Did I miss anything?

 

PHASE 1
select track to start on
MCP level set low the closer you start to the MCP (20 for track 1 and 50 for track 7 - increments 5 per track)
removed need to enter access code in phase 1
voice tells you sector goal instead of access code
press 1 in phase 1 to hear goal sector #
updated color schemes - track is now green so you can see the yellow bullets
update tank graphics

PHASE 2
made catching digets in phase 2 a little easier
press 1-6 in phase 2 when no digit is caught to hear access code
updated game end

Hey @intvdave, I just recalled that I created a TRON-like font and distributed it as part of the IntyBASIC SDK.  It could be something you could use for the text displayed on the TRON games.

 

I made two fonts:  one based on the TRON Legacy set, which is very hard to read, and only useful for small words, such as titles, etc. and another based on the "Micr" set used on for OCR.

Thanks @DZ-Jay!  The first two games are done and I am not going to go back and revisit them. Solar Sailer has the tron font in the game already and, unless someone comments on something else I should change, it is done also.

 

I was just contemplating on showing the code in phase 2 but my kid says the ability to hear the code again is enough.

 

I appreciate the offer.

Thanks for doing this!  Got this today, as requested, some feedback:

 

notes..

Had a lot of fun!

 

Petty, but it won't let me start until the "REBOOTED" animation is done..

 

removing the bonus for killing all three enemies before a refresh slows the 
scoring down a whole bunch..  It is more difficult at the beginning but the 
difficulty ramps up slower.

removing the full health after killing all three enemies..  I understand the idea with having the three enemies always in play because so many 
people play tron really slowly in a horibly slow boring way hiding by the teleports, 

personally, I don't like this change as I feel it encourages hanging by the teleports  
since they are now your only source of health rather than my usual style of jumping 
into the fray and doing my best
to wipe out the 3 together quickly enough to get the bonuses fast score plus health.  

Maybe an option might be to also remove the health you get from going through the 
teleports?

 

The disc going through you and enemies adds some randomness to the hits..  sometimes
the pink guys are killed in one hit and sometimes not.  I don't mind this.

Game crashed for me once trying to load recognizer..  recognizer sound continued non stop

I also hit a bug where the guys just stopped coming out entirely..  First one guy stopped 
(so there was only 2 guys continuously every time I killed one) then 
only one and then 0

recognizers are faster to close doors maybe?  The randomness of the recognizer stop location 

means that the shot from above seems a much better choice than the side now.

So far best strategy for points seems to be to mostly ignore the guys and go for the doors 

recognizers.  This is still not as much fun as jumping into the fray and 
fighting like crazy, which is really fun in this version but gets you not much points 

It's definitely harder to get high scores either way, I have only reached 6500 so far :)


The manual does not say what the score values for the various enemies are.

So I was watching the video and Tron shot one player with a disc and they all vanished. Is there a smart bomb capability that can kill the screen cuz that would be pretty cool.... 

 

Also, how do I go about getting the Maze-A Tron upgrade? ?‍♂️

I have hit a few bugs as well.  Complete freeze requiring a reset.

Player frozen, don't know if it would have freed up, as I got hit 15 times while I could not move.

Also had a game crash when the recognizer was coming out.

 

I have had these issues under Nostalgia and the JZintv, I could not get the game to show on the Ultimate Flashback.  When I get a chance to play on the LTO, I will see if the same issues occur.

For the Ultimate Flashback, does the rom need a special name or something? I think every other rom I have added has worked.

Is it even playable on emulation?  the UF uses Retropie, or more specifically the JzIntv build for Linux in the EmulationStation environment.   

 

I understood we couldn't play these on anything outside the LTO system.

Certainly plays on Nostalgia.  I will try JZ later.  But I really want to get it working on the UF.  All of David's other games seem to work.  I think it is file naming.

I need to remote to it again and see what I did.  The UF is off, so I cannot see it right now.

Works on both JzIntv and FreeIntv on RetroPie!  I didn't know that!

I have updated the game not to restore health going through the teleports. I also adjusted part of the code that gave me a headache from when I started working on this game. Sorry... this has been one title I should have never released. I am much happier with Maze and Sailor.

If you ordered the game, let me know and I will send you the update.
