Tengugurl
Hi there! TL;DR - how is my soldering not working? Followed this tutorial: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.instructables.com/Retro-Atari-7800-Mod-Sega-Master-System-controlle/%3Famp_page%3Dtrue 1) followed it to a T 2) it works for a few minutes then I lose the fire buttons. (I and II) 3) now I have a bridge across the jumper (instructions said it’s a diode but I am getting current both ways) and it’s leaving it always pushing a button (always closed) anyone made one of these hacks? I regret not reading the comments before I wasted an SMS controller. Luckily I had a broken 7800 controller that was a broken shell to salvage the wires from. feeling pretty dumb. Desoldered so many freaking times that the solder pads gave up. Maybe I should? Lmfao ?
Danjovic
Check the wiring with a multimeter. Do not trust blindly on the wire color of the instructable. Use the continuity function to check the pinout against the reference schematic for the 7800 controller.
RevEng
Drop the diode, as it's not required. The schematic by Danjovic should work - I have a genesis pad modded to the same circuit, and it works great.
0078265317
Or there is always the raphnet adapters. 2 button support might not work. But a seagull 78 adapter will fix that. And will work with many controllers. No soldering now or again if the one you soldered breaks. Worth the extra $$. https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/snes_to_db9/index.php Edited December 29, 2021 by 0078265317
SINGLE TOOTH
I made one of these hacks many years ago and it worked for me. The details are foggy now.

+DrVenkman
If you’re going to buy a Seagull 78 (DISCLAIMER: I have one and love it), no need to modify or buy any kind of custom controller. Just pick up a super cheap/super reliable 3-button Genesis pad and use that.
0078265317
I use a seagull 78. Then one of these. https://www.8bitdo.com/retro-receiver-genesis-mega-drive/ Pairs with my Wii mote nicely. Then an adapter from hyperkin to convert wii mote classic connector to nes or snes controller. Works great. My NES advantage did not work. And my nes max did not work. But my recoton nes controller worked nicely. And my shines hyperstick worked great. And a sense controller worked pretty good too. And with a wiimote to gamecube and then gamecube to Atari adapter from raphnet Atari controllers worked also. Except my hyperkin trooper 2 button did not work. Both buttons did the same thing.
