ralphw
(edited - the Atari 800 supply is a 9VAC transformer) I have four Atari 800s and one 130XL I've accumulated over the years. I'm getting nervous about using the original 1980s-vintage power bricks, and wonder if I should replace any of the supplies. I lack one of the Atari 800 supplies, and wonder if I can build a replacement. What's a reliable source for the transformer Atari used. For the 130XL, what should I be looking for? Do I need to worry about the aging internal components in the 800? I see warnings about the "ingot" power supply, so will avoid that. Rybags
I'm not sure the 800 transformer types have much in the way of problems. They work or they don't - a pair of windings that give a predetermined output voltage without altering the AC waveform, so not a lot to go wrong. But of course you have the computer side power board where most of the action takes place so that's where a failure is more likely. The later XL and XEs - you can homebrew a USB cable to DIN plug and use a > 1 Amp (probably preferably > 1.5) 5V DC charger.
