_The Doctor__
tuscany golden rod vs citrine golden rod... but there was a change in the standard that has also been discussed that also didn't help.... golden rod is natural color taken from flora.... but there is an issue with that as well, it needs to be in full bloom.. if not it can appear as slightly tinted with the faintest green tone on the edges of the yellow or if observed too late may appear tinged orange as the stamens give up their color... see the issue? this all was discussed on AA before as well... but not so much about the flowers... but moreso about the changing standards, thought now there are 3 for NTSC in terms of rendering color-space... before everyone goes all crazy, realize PAL also had changing standard and rendering changes as well... you have to be all history geeky to dig it all up and then look at display device technology and it's color space as well.... Many modern tv's have two color space choices hidden in their menus and also allow tint calibration, or full calibration for home theater standards of the consumer... dig deep... Lostdragon
On 1/26/2022 at 9:42 PM, oracle_jedi said: I seem to recall reading an article where Archer Maclean was not paid for Dropzone sales in the U.S., and no effort was made to adapt it to NTSC timing. Hence the double-explosion when you lose a life. A little bit of a sticky wickett situation, when it comes to Archer Maclean interviews, his accounts change over the years. He's talked of taking over the original International Karate Project for System 3 and having to redo most of the code and Jon Hare graphics, then says he started the game from scratch, in other interviews. He's talked of being influenced by Melbourne House's Way Of The Exploding Fist in some interviews, then in others, states System 3 showed him a Data East Karate Champ Coin-Op and simply said copy this. He's talked of his preference for the A8 hardware, calling it the Porsche to the BMW C64, calling the C64 hardware inferior.. Then in other interviews, states there simply wasn't a favourite machine during the era, they all had their limitations. The trouble with System 3 itself is, Mark Cale is another who loves to give a version of events which suits him best, staunchly refuses to discuss many cancelled titles, blame others for commercial failures. I suspect with such strong minded individuals, we will never know the true version of events.
Mclaneinc
Mark Cale, a man who loved himself and probably still does. As for Archer, yes, I've seen newer interviews, and he's totally about face with what we heard years ago. He definitely showed a clear preference to the Atari 8 bit when me and others spoke to him. I remember him talking to me and a mate re Dropzone where he clearly said that the Atari version was better and that the C64 was inferior to it. Now it's not as if he was telling me what I wanted to hear as it was evident I owned both machines and enjoyed both. Why they change the story, I'll never fully understand, I suppose if he's being interview by a Commodore based mag that he will show preference to that machine which is a bit of a cop out.
