rcajun90
I’m having a problem with transferring COD Cold War from my Xbox one. It says I don’t own the game when I launch it but if I try to buy it, it says I already own it. Anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible to transfer disk games to the Xbox S? Jagosaurus
Man... I don't think what you're trying to do is possible. If so... you could borrow a disc, throw it on a HDD, then return the disc. I think you need to have disc present, in console drive, as a "license key" which isn't possible on the all digital S. It's my understanding you forfeit your physical library with the both Digital One S and Series S. I haven't purchased a Series S due to this. I own a good chunk of physical games so waiting to buy a Series X to leverage the disc drive. If someone can correct me, I'll go buy a Series S tomorrow lol. Austin
Transferring disc games won't do you any good. You still need a disc in the drive to play a particular title. Kind of hard to do that when you do not have a disc drive. ? Random thought: I really wish Microsoft would enable external USB disc drive support. The games install to the hard drive anyway and the disc is basically just used as a key to access the content. That would give Series S owners a way of still using physical media. Yeah, it'd be more clunky than just having a Series X, but I don't see why it can't be done. I can pretty much hook up any USB DVD or BluRay drive and Windows will let me use it as if I had a dedicated internal drive in my PC.
Jagosaurus
Agree @Austin. Unfortunately there's copy protection on the disc and a process for the drive to verify it. It's my understanding this is why a standard USB drive won't work... to prevent using rips/burns as that license key.
Leonard Smith
Wow. Glad I read this. I have a small collection of discs for my Xbox One and that's something to consider when you go the cheaper Series S route. Kind of sucks. In a way, you really don't own anything (physical or digital). You're ok if your existing Xbox One works well, but for someone in the market for a new gen Xbox (and with the Series X being in short supply), this is a dilemma to consider.

MS was suppose to let you trade your disks in for digital copies but that never happened, so it's back to getting screwed over Gamestop trade-ins which are a penny for every dollar they resell the game for. PS. If I had a significant large library of physical media like disk games and/or Blu-Ray movies, I'd still keep my Xbox One S and only use a Series S for the optimized titles. Bugger if I'm buying a $500 Series X for a non-4K TV...

Not as fast but will bring in more for digital replacements.

My first Xbox One S was the all digital edition. I grew tired of not being able to pick up cheap games at yard sales, pawn shops, Game Stop, ebay, etc., and I wanted a Blu-ray player. So I bought a new One S with optical drive. I offered up the All Digital one to a co-worker for his son or $50 (with a wired PowerA controller). I was sure to stress it was the "ALL DIGITAL EDITION" several times. I brought it in, and he said "where do you put discs in?" I said it doesn't have an optical drive. I told you it was all digital which he didn't know what the F that meant. He was kinda annoyed. I said you don't have to buy it, but he did. 1

Leonard Smith
It's a good idea, but man, the thought of buying and hanging onto yet another add-on does not appeal. The Series S really needs an update to include the drive.
Atariboy
9 hours ago, Leonard Smith said: The Series S really needs an update to include the drive. The point of it is to keep the price tag low. One significant way that they took to accomplish that was to omit the drive. So especially in today's world where gamers are increasingly going all-digital, I can't say that I agree. Going the optional external route though makes a lot of sense. It offers an affordable upgrade path for the people that don't need 4k but ended up regretting losing the ability to play discs on their new Xbox. Or for the folks that never wanted to lose the disc drive but begrudgingly bought a Series S simply due to severe availability issues with Microsoft's premium system. Now if this happens, their compromised system will be able to be made complete. And for the majority that are happily buying a Series S and don't care that it can't play discs, they're not stuck paying extra for a feature they wouldn't of used anyways.
