Songbird
Do you have 8bit-Slicks and 8bit-Hub? Next game day is Saturday, Dec 3, at 9am Central Time (Chicago) / 4pm France / 12am Sunday Japan. We'll play for about an hour. Join our Discord channel if you'd like to chat in real-time during the race, or need help setting up the Hub: https://discord.gg/yyrnVsZBCH
+jgkspsx
I feel like there needs to be a better way to coordinate these. I always seem to miss ‘em
Songbird
I've been wondering if we should just set up a regular time, like one Saturday per month or every Saturday at the same time. Upside is it would be a fixed recurring event. Downside is people may get frustrated if no one else shows up on a given slot. The start time is tricky since ideally we are including Europe and Japan too. I've been using 9am Central (Chicago), which makes it 7am for California, 4pm Paris, and either 11pm or 12am for Japan. I'm open to suggestions on how to make it a recurring event and if we need a better start time. Thoughts?
sage
we do alternating times for our meeting with europe, japan, american participants, thus everyone suffers regularly

+jgkspsx
Is there any way for people to join without an 8bit hub, say from Handy?
Songbird
Actually, yes, you can! Download the Slicks demo ROM and custom Handy emulator here: https://8bit-slicks.com/?wpdmpro=lynx-cart This version of Handy has built-in Hub support, so it will connect to the online servers. The demo ROM has minor graphical changes, does not have in-game music, and supports fewer race tracks compared to the Songbird cartridge release. 1
+jgkspsx
Can people join Saturday's challenge with the demo version? 8bit-Slicks is one of the Lynx High Score Challenge games of the month. Would it be possible to do another one later in a month as a bonus challenge for the Lynx high score challenge this month?

Maybe I should point out that you can play anytime, and do not have to wait for the challenge. The main challenge this month is just a single-player time trial, but for bonus points I would like to get people to join an online race. The more people on at one time the more likely people are to get matched up!
Songbird
Fans can definitely join with the shareware ROM. There are 3 servers (max 12 players) open for all players, then other servers open only for owners of the full version. We'll fill up the servers as needed so everyone can play. As sage mentioned, anyone can plan an event. I'm open to doing another one this month, but not in the last week (for me) since I'll be prepping for Midwest Gaming Classic.

+jgkspsx
Would it be possible to schedule these further in advance? Not that there's anything wrong with impromptu ones but I feel that I always learn about them too late to join! Plus people in the high score challenge can win extra points by joining one. Songbird
Certainly possible. What if we just set up a recurring event on the first Saturday of each month?
