PS: Now that I've got one, Jaguar CD releases for the likes of Jumping at Shadows, Xenowings, and Gravitic Mines would be pretty awesome! Wishful thinking though I'm sure.

Not possible for jas and gm, simply not enough RAM.

If there is a joke there I guess I don't understand?

It's based on an old joke and @CyranoJ's well-known feelings about the JagCD.

That being said... I assume unlike most games, JAS is probably a 6 MB ROM? Could it be a compatibility issue, or a bad contact on a pin that's only used for larger ROMs?

I was about to pick up Jumping at Shadows on Friday and I'm very glad that I did! It is a really fun platformer and I've been having a lot of fun with it.

That said, it does appear that it doesn't work with a Jaguar CD attached? I've cleaned the cart slot and tested other jag games and they fire right up, but Jumping at Shadows just gives an immediate full red jaguar logo screen when trying to play it through my Jag CD? But it comes right up when I play it directly on the jaguar without the CD attached?

Anyone else able to give that a test and confirm or might there be a technical reason for this?

I have this problem with another game Xenon 2: Megablast. It rarely loads with the CD attached but always works without it. Only game I ever had this issue with.

I cannot wait to get my hands on JAS.  As someone who hasn't kept up with modern video games in like six years, it's literally the only game released in 2024 that I am likely to buy, just as Gravitic Mines is the only game I own from 2022.

Did a bit more testing last night and have confirmed that this is the only game that for some reason will not work through my JagCD passthrough. Again, it just immediately gives a red screen when powering on the console. But Gravitic Mines, and Last Strike come right up and work fine.

In any event, I've at the final boss now and cannot figure out how to damage this guy? I will state that it was kinda a pain to go back and find a level where I was missing one of the orbs since when I first got to the top I have 501 of the needed 502 to open the portal. But I did eventually find one. Luckily you don't have to play through all the screens when going back for missing orbs. Just do the game reset back to the main title as soon as you pick them up and it seems to remember which, is nice!

Use your detonators to hit the eye when he turns on you. Timing is a bit tricky, but its the last boss.

So you beat it fairly quickly, guess you played it a lot? ;)

I've tried that...but he end up hitting me in the process due to how fast he actually moves up and down. I've played it a bit yes but then Jumping at Shadows is the kind of game that I tend to do better at than say schmups for instance.

Anyone purchasing the game at the show this weekend will receive the soundtrack CD free!  Jumping at Shadows will be available in the AtariAge Store after the show.

The packaging and artwork for this look really good. Great work on this.

1.5 hours tonight and I finished only one level.  There's always one of those jumps that frustrates the hell out of you.  You get near the top then you have to make some clutch jump and you fall to your death, only to start at the beginning.

It's frustrating and addictive at the same time.  I was trying to put the controller down for the last 30 minutes.

Its not. Preorders did not open yet. There was a limited release at PRGE with 28 copies. So technically, you could say its back to unreleased Status.

Oh, I see, let's wait then, thanks.

I messaged the Atari Age folks on the Jaguar Fans Discord. They said that when they get more boards they will open the page up. I found the Jumping at Shadows page by poking around a bit so if you can just refresh that to make things easier.

@CyranoJ I did finally finish the game the other night. I finally figured out how to damage the last boss and essentially figure out the timing etc.

That said,

Spoiler

I've reached out to Al since it seems my copy of the game didn't come with the sealed envelope/letter that we are told to open at the end.

Please, would you mind sharing your opinion on the game?
I'm tempted to buy it once it's available, so I'd like to know if you'd recommend it, etc.

I've not bought that many Jaguar releases so I don't know that I'm really able to form a good opinion here. But I do think that Jumping at Shadows is my favorite Reboot release to date. It has some wonderful music that fits in well, the puzzle platforming isn't super frustrating and with practice and simply looking, you can figure out what you need to do. I also really like the graphics as whole. While the color palette never really changes from level to level I never found it boring or tedious to look at when playing and it had me pretty much hooked from the first few moments of starting out.

My only real criticism is that you are required to find a number of orbs in order to unlock the next level, and naturally that orb count goes up as you progress. But the only time you really know if you missed any or not, is when you complete a level and it gives a summary of how long it took to get through the sections and how many orbs of the total that exist in those sections, you were able to find. As a result of this, when it comes to the last few levels or stages in the game to unlock, you might not have enough orbs and then you have to replay sections where you might have missed them. But because you only know this on the summaries, you don't know which sections to go back and revisit afterwards since they don't tell you beyond those summaries. Unless there was something I missed or a key to press to show the stats?

I would advise perhaps watching @ZeroPage Homebrew's videos of it to see if the game play might be your cup of tea as they say.

Thank you so much, @-^CrossBow^-!
By reading your posts over the years, I learned that my gaming preferences usually align with yours (the importance you give to music and sound, for example) so that's why I asked you.
I had already seen the gameplay footage and other content related to the game.

And, yes, the aesthetics of it are something that I had liked since the first screenshots and videos were shared years ago.
I like cyberpunk a lot, so that might explain it.
